Country blues is what I love. I play fingerstyle mainly and have been performing in bars, coffee houses and festivals for over 30 years, either solo or in various band/duo/trio contexts. I've also been playing blues-oriented mandolin all those years after listening to Yank Rachell play with Sleepy John Estes. Currently living in Washington just outside Portland, OR. "NO FRILLS" was my 3rd recording and 1st completely solo effort. I just wanted complete control for a change (can you blame me for that?) so I wrote, arranged, recorded and performed all the tracks. "STRANGER IN MY KITCHEN" is the followup solo release to "NO FRILLS", completed in March 2008. Sunspot activity energized the songwriter genes and a whole new batch of tunes came out. I had a lot of fun writing and recording this one and I think it challenged me a lot more than previous efforts. This is the first time I've used electric guitar on a recording, yet I really tried to pare down the instrumentation. I'm still building guitars and mandolins. Most of the instruments I record with were built in my shop. Every now and then I get together with my buddy Mike Hay with whom I've played for almost 30 years and we've been known to record some.
