Today LUMEN is one of the most popular Russian rock-bands. Some people consider the band as representatives of new wave of alternative, others call them the continuers of the punk-rock tradition, but definitions don’t really matter for them. They make honest and uncompromising songs without paying attention to “format” and conjuncture and these songs gain the space in the hearts of hundreds of thousands of fans. Their live show is a hurricane of drive and real emotions, that’s why many LUMEN concerts are sold-outs around the country.
The band exist for 11 years, during this time they have played hundreds of concerts in Russia, Ukraine, Belorussia, Kazakhstan and the Baltic States, released 5 studios records, played a solo concert at the famous Moscow stadium “MSA Luzhniki” with an absolute sold-out, got an impressive collection of prizes of the most established media recourses and earned status of one of the most popular Russian rock-bands. For Two years in a row LUMEN were awarded RAMP Prize (Russian Alternative Music Premium arranged by First Russian Alternative Music Channel «A-One») in nominations “Band of the Year” (2007, 2008) and “Album of The Year” (album “Pravda?”) (2007). After a few weeks after “Pravda?” release LUMEN got a prize of authoritative Russian rock-magazine «Fuzz» as “Best New Band”. following 2008 year another prize from «Fuzz» magazine was added to the collection– LUMEN have won in the nomination “Album of the Year”.
To date the band have released 5 studio albums, 4 live albums and 2 concert DVD from the concerts in Moscow at B1-Maximum Club and St.-Petersburg from Port Club. The latest studio album “MIR” (the name of the album it’s a pun in Russian: “Mir” could be translated both as “Peace” and as “World”) was released in May 2009.
The tour in support of the album was in May and covered large Russian, Ukrainian and Byelorussian cities. Moscow presentations were in the legendary «DK Gorbunova» on 23th and 24th of May. On 26th of July LUMEN played on one stage with Linkin Park and Funeral for a Friend at “Greenfest” open-air in St.-Petersburg. LINKIN PARK personally selected a support band from Russian for their concert in St. Petersburg in 2009.
The number of admirers is growing fast. there are no scandals or fake sensations In the band’s history, there are only fair songs, that turned out to be timely and became real youth hymns. Lumen moves only forward saving fidelity to initially chosen direction.
