M.HEADPHONE:
"…peculiar brew of rock and pop that defies categorization. -- Albert Vega, Music Connection Magazine
M. Headphone is made up of a closely-knit group of friends who have been making music together since grade school. The current incarnation of the group has been intact since 1998, when the members left Connecticut and moved to San Francisco.
Most Recently the band returned from a tour of the North East. The band sold out two shows in Connecticut, one show in Boston, one show in Saratoga, NY, and played to over 200 people at NYC’s Elbo Room. The band will be on the road this August for a national tour and is planning a heavy touring schedule this fall on the college circuit.
M. Headphone is made up of Vocalists Dylan Connor (Lead Guitar) and Dod Andrew (Rhythm Guitar), Bassist Trevor Coen, and Drummer Greg Thorne. Their new album, "No Misfires," is a collection of the acoustic-based songs by Dylan that came to life over the past year at their weekly unplugged shows. In the studio, all basic tracking was done completely live, in hopes of capturing the energy and spontaneity of their live performances. "We had started to experiment with this new direction and material. We fleshed it out and it worked," says Dylan.
They recorded their first album as M. Headphone, "The Apex Barbeque" in 1997 while still residing on the East Coast. They played the New York club circuit, and within months, were performing to over 150 enthusiastic fans at the legendary "Continental" in Greenwich Village. Shortly after, they moved to San Francisco and were seen by Bruce Solar (booking agent for Cake) at their very first SF gig. He told them he liked what he saw and heard, and eventually deemed them the "most persistent band in the city." Shortly after, Scott Llamas of PopSmear Records caught a gig and invited them to record at the company's studios.
The resulting album, "Our Future Depends on it," which was released in 2000, climbed above The Strokes, Bush, and Superchunk in CMJ reports. The band has supported such notable acts as Cracker, The Violent Femmes, and Blink 182; and their music has been featured on national ESPN and Fox television broadcasts.
With two songwriters, Dylan Connor and Dod Andrew, they serve up a wide range of styles, flavors and attitudes. They have a vast catalog of original material (100 songs), which are in constant rotation, along with frequent surprise covers, to make each show a unique experience for fans. They also like to alternate between electric and acoustic shows, performing completely different sets for each.
