ALBUM COMING February 18, 2008
A mysterious brunette with a light up goose and a giant tambourine, word-of-mouth has been Maggie Walters’ best friend since she settled in Austin, Texas a few years ago. She came there with little more than a guitar and an acoustic demo she’d recorded in the bathroom of a dilapidated Chicago apartment. The arrival of her self-released self-titled debut was met with a four-star Austin American-Statesman review, KGSR radioplay, and a sold-out CD release at the Cactus Café.
It was after her official SXSW showcase in 2006 that she met producer Paul Leary (Butthole Surfers, Sublime, Toadies) with whom she would make another album. The resulting record is Midwestern Hurricane, an album featuring some of Austin’s best known musicians, including Texas Troubadour Ray Wylie Hubbard, legendary Faces alumni Ian MacLagan, Lyle Lovett cellist John Hagan, and many more. It was Produced by Paul Leary with Walters and mixed by James Vollentine (Spoon, Patty Griffin).
Walters’ songs have garnered national attention and have been played on Austin’s KGSR and KUT and stations with similar programming throughout the country. Her collaboration with Sugarhill’s Dan Workman continues as the two have composed music for CNBC. Walters has been featured on The Bob Edwards Show, XM Radio’s RADAR Report, KUT’s inaugural podcast; was an ArtistDirect semi-finalist for the Ultimate band competition, Editor’s pick on Download.com, featured in Mix Magazine and most recently was chosen as one of Music Connection Magazine’s Top 100 Artists of 2007.
Walters has already begun her next album with producer Leary, due to come out this Summer following Hurricane’s February release.
Walters plays February 23rd at LA’s famous Hotel Café.
