The most vital art is always made at intersections:
technology and tradition…
silence and volume…
sacred and profane…
Maida Vale lives and thrives at these intersections. Forming in mid-2007 in a town that's far from attentive to their genre, Maida Vale is already impressing listeners with its thoughtful arrangements and well-crafted songs and soundscapes. Playing empathetically and with a dynamic sensibility rarely present in today's music, Maida Vale's earthy, cinematic playing leaves a haunting and lasting impression that’s also appealing to people who “just want to hear a good song”.
The members of Maida Vale have individually made their musical footprint in the past, having experience in touring, engineering, and production. Each member could easily front his own project, but the group prefers to walk the more difficult path of collaboration. The resulting music definitely bears the mark of this "strength through diversity" approach.
The band’s debut EP was released in October of 2007, and promptly entered the iTunes “Folk” charts, eventually peaking at 22 and featured alongside new releases by Bob Dylan and David Gray. Building on this early success, the band continued to write and create at an alarming pace, going into the studio again in March of 2008 to record their first full-length release, American Sun, which was released on May 1. The band is currently supporting the CD, including impressive shows in Nashville (The Rutledge) and Chicago (Martyr’s), with more on the way. Like the bands debut EP, American Sun was featured prominently on iTunes “Folk” page, and was already at 51 on the folk charts merely 4 days after the release date.
This young band continues to create at a constant pace, and is already considering yet another release in the Winter of 2009. “There’s no reason to think that we can’t write as many songs as possible,” says singer Eric Case. “We believe that if you simply work at creativity, you can produce an increasing amount of art. The well really doesn’t run dry.”
