Making Movies' debut Tierra Firme is four decades in the making. In the early 1970's in small town, Santiago, Panama, Enrique Chi, Sr., discovered the moving power of Beatles and developed a life-long passion with the guitar. His children Enrique and Diego -born in that same small Caribbean town- also discovered the moving power of 'white' music digging through their fathers record collection.
This unique taste for rock and roll was not understood most Panamanian friends and peers. Enrique explains, "My mother did not understand this passion for music without rhythm so she nourished us with a heavy diet of salsa, merengue and some delicious arroz con guandu y coco."
The family transplanted to the most central place in United States where Diego and Enrique began collaborating with local musicians under the name Making Movies. It proved difficult to find musicians that understood the split nature of their culture and music. Luckily they found one, drummer/percussionist Brendan Culp with whom they travel around playing to anyone who will stop and listen (the band also brings an auxilary percussionist on the road).
Four decades later, Making Movies has created an album inspired by the rich history of their homeland. Each song is presented in English and Spanish, and the album will be released in three five-song installments. Singer and songwriter Enrique asserts, "I feel like we are getting close to making the music that is my head."
