Lewisham born Mally Malcz is determined to make an impact on the UK hip-hop scene in 2008. Mally started out as an MC in during the ‘UK garage era’. And after performing at various clubs in the UK and over-seas, Mally decided that he wanted to take his lyrical talent in a new direction – UK hip-hop. At the time, the scene was pretty quiet, but recently more and more artists have been emerging, and now he is one of many battling for recognition. After 2 years of hard graft, his first album ‘Under the Influence’ is finally complete and ready to inject into the airwaves. The two men behind the project, Mally Malcz and producer Joas put all of their spare time into putting together the album, and provide the audience with some key elements that are lacking from the UK scene - Namely musical diversity and originality. The album is intended as a journey into Mally’s world, into his mind, and even into one of his therapy sessions (as the intro and outro imply). It can’t be more candid than this, and Mally isn’t holding back, whilst at the same time, he’s not ‘faking’ or pretending to be someone that he’s isn’t. Various tracks from the album have already been getting heavy rotation on pirate radio – Rinse FM’s DJ Interlude being one of Mally’s most influential supporters. Mally also received critical acclaim for his authorised bootleg of Lily Allen’s track ‘Littlest things’, with his interpretation entitled ‘Dreams’. More recently, the title track ‘Under the Influence’ was even nominated at the 2007 Global Marijuana Music Awards. Now that the entire project is complete, the Mally Malcz machine is working at full steam, with a video for ‘Why’ set for broadcast and videos for ‘Mally Malcz’ and ‘Our Gaff’ already in production. You can also expect to see plenty more live performances and media appearances as Mally sets about giving the UK hip-hop scene a reality check.
