In 2007, MCA Music Inc. (a label under Universal Music Group International) continued its mission of infusing new blood to the Philippine Music Scene as they launched “I AM M.E.” the debut album of rock alternative sensation Miguel Escueta.
After dominating the charts, reaching number 1, and piercing through the airwaves with hits “Falling Away” and “Isipin”, Miguel Escueta (popularly known as “M.E.”), returned even bigger, stronger, edgier in 2008 and rocked the airwaves even more with “I AM M.E.: Amplified”, a deluxe edition of his debut release, where the singles “Handa” and “Blue Monday” were taken from.
Encompassing the whole spectrum, ME’s hits were played from NU107.5, Magic89.9, RX93.1, all the way to Love Radio 90.7 and YesFM101.1. We’re very proud to say that all these singles made almost every countdown on radio and its videos were always a mainstay on the MYX Weekly Charts (MYX is the #1 Music Channel in the Philippines). This artist made even more noise towards the end of 2008 with high profile side projects. He was chosen to do the local version of “This is Me” (along with OPM Soul-Child Julianne), the theme song of massive Disney Movie “Camp Rock.” Aside from this, he was commissioned by TV Giant ABS-CBN to do a rock version of the song “Only Hope” as it became the theme song of the show “My Only Hope”, starring Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson. All these things have helped M.E. brew a huge following of the youth in the Philippines, and even abroad.
M.E. is joined by seasoned performers Roy Secillano (drums), Jeng Tria (bass) and Canadian Native Juni Devecais (lead guitars) in every gig, the album’s recording, and pretty much everywhere else. In interviews, Miguel shares that it’s actually more of a band than anything else. “We work together like a band unit. We’ve all become very good friends and I’ve learned so much from them because they’ve had so much more performing experience than I have.” Aside from the usual nationwide album tour, together, Miguel and the Band have performed in front of thousands in the biggest music and rock events in the country including MYX MO, plus Peace Concerts in Davao, Baguio and Cabanatuan.
Bandmate Juni Devecais, who moved to the Philippines from Canada to do music in 2005, has become the band’s official musical producer as well, as he was at the helm of the production process for both “I AM M.E.” and “I AM M.E.: Amplified.”
Fresh off winning "BEST ROCK ALTERNATIVE ACT" at the 2009 Philippine Radio Music Awards, Miguel and his band are slowly gearing up for their next record – the highly anticipated 2nd full length album, still under label giant MCA Music Inc. The target launch for this album will be somewhere between the 3rd and 4th quarter of this year, 2009.
Aside from working on the new record, M.E. and the band constantly search for an opening to somehow break into the international scene.
