Miranda Lee Richards, or Miranda, as she likes to be called, was born in San Francisco to hipster artist parents and thus decided to become a hipster artist herself when she grew up. "I inherited artistic and musical talents from my parents and being a musician seemed like a natural career choice for me," says Richards. "My only form of rebellion was to fantasize about having a soccer mom and wear really conservative clothing when I was twelve or so. Of course, I eventually came to appreciate the creative lifestyle and became one of 'them'." "I was mostly 'groomed' in fine art/painting and drawing when I was younger, but I had also seriously studied music and was a member of my school choir. I remember this turning point when I said to myself, 'Being an artist/illustrator [like my parents] seems like such a hard road. I think I'll have an easier time pursuing a music career.' I muse now at the naivete of that thought." Despite the ebb and flow, the music life has been kind to Miranda. "I've had my ups and downs but I'm incredibly inspired and fascinated by what I'm doing, and for that I'm grateful. There have been times when a sense of loneliness has crept in and I've made it a theme in my music because it's so human and beautiful. In general, though, forward motion is what's inspiring to me." Her range of both artistry and emotion is astounding. As one fan put it, "Listening to a Miranda record is like listening to your favorite playlist, everything you want to hear and nothing you don't. She's never written a bad song. Her music is just 'right'." Be sure to check out her official site at http://www.mirandaleerichards.com for more information.
