It's good to see a woman smile like that when she plays music.

Sep 21 2008, 03:33 PMI couldn't bake a better flyer
Can't say enough good stuff about my recent experience with Brad at bandflyer.com. For $20 bucks he'll create a custom flyer that you can print at home, or he'll provide prints for you for an additional cost.
We sent him two, not so high quality pictures, and within 24 hours, I saw the first draft.
A musician's dream come true when you need flyers in a pinch, and are worried about draining your creative friends for a dreamy design.
Thanks Brad. -
Aug 31 2008, 04:31 PMOne down, four to go
April 15, I first sent off the deposit for the Echo Mountain recording session. And on Thursday, August 28, finally released the first song off the EP. The other three are due out in mid-October, if all goes well.
And when I hear this song now, I realize its come a long way from the first time I played it at one of the Cypher festivals in downtown Raleigh. The tune is basically about a boy I knew in a writing class, back when I was trying to be a technical writer. Ahem.
Either way, the Buster Dilly players on this little baby really brought it, including Jeremy, Sal, and Benjamin from The Urban Sophisticates; plus Andrew, Tim, and McCracken.
And of course, producer Greg Griffith.
Thanks all.

Apr 15 2008, 11:02 AMCheap envelopes and Echo Mountain
That's one cheap, unlickable envelope. It took three pieces of scotch tape to close that thing up.
Also, addressed and stamped twice because it's impossible to keep up with the rising costs of US postal stamps. What's it up to, now, like $5? Licked, taped, and stamped in triples because I want to make sure it gets all the way up there to Echo Mountain Recorders in Asheville.
This little envelope with enclosed check and hand-written letter reserves a studio spot in early May at Echo Mountain Recorders for Molly McGinn & the Buster Dillys. And I'll say, to avoid rising expectations, that this is a career highlight. And I'll also say, to avoid any chance of an end, that I hope it's just a beginning.
The Asheville-based studio is yet another one of North Carolina's best kept secrets. For its quality technology and archive of ancient instruments that no software or plug-in could ever duplicate, an impressive list of musicians have made Echo mountain a short-term home for recording proejcts.
Among the list of musicians who have fiddled with the studio's antique instruments and amps:
The Avett Brothers
Lo-Fi Breakdown
Amy Ray
Now I'm wondering. Should I have stamped it four times? Just in case? -
Mar 20 2008, 09:10 AMLive music in Winston ... safe for nowFrom Cathy Clarke:
After a recent meeting of the Winston-Salem Public Safety Committee, City Manager Lee Garrity announced the proposed Nightclub Ordinance will be withdrawn. The Committee will work closely with representatives of the Winston-Salem Music and Nightlife Association - the chief group of people fighting the proposed ordinance - and draft a new ordinance satisfactory to both parties.
Your involvement in this issue enabled the Public Safety Committee to understand that the community does not support their former ordinance. This understanding was elemental in getting the Committee to agree to withdraw the ordinance in its current state. Their commitment to work more closely with the community in building a new ordinance seems genuine.
While this is not quite the end of the issue, it seems that we are out of the danger zone.
Thank-you for all your help.
Keep the flame alive!!!
