Without a doubt, all it takes to describe Needle And The Pain Reaction (NATPR) is one word: energy! If you have ever seen them play, you know exactly what we are talking about. Wim Deliveyne (former member of sic. and Belgian band Millionaires webdesigner), Peter De Bosschere (regular drummer of Ann Pierlé), and Luc Waegeman (ex starfighter, ex sexmachines, labelmanager of Kinky Star records) only need about two square metres of stage to do what they do best, making crowds go wild.
They are based in Ghent and can be found in Kinky Star, a Music centre housing both a record label and a music club. The band started off with their jam sessions in 2000 and played their renowned guerrilla concerts on both the ‘Gentse en Lokerse Feesten’, cultural festivals. They perfected their style, turning their gigs into steaming and mind-blowing guitar performances combining no nonsense power with catchy melodies which remind of Dinosaur Jr., Afghan Whigs but also bands like Sonic Youth and Mudhoney.
Their first album, ‘Obsessions Of An Epic Womanizer’, was released in 2004 on the Kinky Star Records label. Second full album ‘Pheromone’ was recorded in Malta at the Temple Studios and was released in the beginning of 2007. The record was produced by David Vella (who also worked with bands and artists like Rammstein, Dave Lombardo, Philip Boa and the Voodoo Club, The Beangrowers and many others). In March 2006 and 2007 Needle played the Canadian Music Week in Toronto and stayed in Canada for two small tours in temperatures of 27 degrees below zero. In Belgium they have been support acts of both guitar legend Chris Spedding (Roxy Music, Brian Eno, John Cale) in Ghent and of Radio Birdman in Trix, a club in Antwerp. In January 2008 they toured France in cities like Paris, Nantes and Marseille and their adventures on the road are not yet coming to an end as they have planned to tour Italy in May. In the meanwhile a third full album is being written, which is due to be released by December 2008.
