Formed during the height of the grunge movement, Nice Guy Eddie was an attempt at a more optimistic approach to pop. Going against the trend of cynicism and general pessimism that characterized most of their contemporaries, songwriters Chris Jackson and Ken McAnlis drew much inspiration from the aesthetic and song craft of such sixties groups as the Beatles and the Beach Boys. After working together for six months, they formed Nice Guy Eddie in the summer of 1994. Since that time the group has had several personnel changes before settling on the current line-up of Jeff Emminger (drums, vocals), Chris Jackson (vocals, guitar) and Paul Miller (bass, vocals). The band’s initial output was a veritable sampler of pop and other styles. Subjects ranged from joyous infatuation to punk inflected regret to sullen reflection to matter of fact sincerity. Over the years they have refined their material to a style mostly akin to power pop: strongly rooted in the sixties, but with more of an edge and a healthy dose of experimentation.
