House Music is not just a kind of music. It is a Culture.
House Music culture is the culture of good music, the soundtrack for quality modern living. It may be Hip Hop, it can be Jazz, we dig Funk, Soul, even Pop music, I listen to it as long as it's relevant, tasteful and has a Soul. The House DJ blends a selection of tunes that is timeless and of quality. From the early days of jazz funk and soul to the 80s disco through the club culture of the 21st century, a special breed of musicians and artistes formed a movement – a strong yet invisible class that unites people from different music scenes, backgrounds, even eras, to come together as one - a movement that separates the cutting edge from the norm. This is what Nomsta* is about - on the forefront of this movement, a continuous search for gems through a journey of good music that becomes an exclusive class of its own.
This is my soundtrack and it is my life. Life is too short for mundane music and my life mission is to continuously listen to the most interesting music. I discovered music from decades ago that is made with such ingenuity that it's still listenable today. I play old jazz tunes, ethnic music, african roots, mix together with the freshest dance music today (literally). This keeps me versatile to play at different venues and events, for different audiences and vibe. My music influences comes from likeminded people (friends) I hook up with through the years - artistes like future-jazz prodigies Zero dB from UK introduces him to the possibilities of the future sounds of Jazz; Soul from original soul-meisters such as Roy Davis Jr coming straight out of Chicago; a network of music edge cutters from Japan, France, UK, around Asia and the world.
I come from a background in the record industry, my specialty is media marketing and promotions. I am a creative marketing consultant in the day. I also run this project Gooodness (gooodness.com) – conceptual events, media and a community involving creatives from music, visual arts, design, merchandising and culture. Gooodness Soundsystem is our music events showcasing Nomsta*and the Gooodness crew. From Singapore's top clubs Zouk and Ministry Of Sound to eclectic music Good Vibrations Festival, Gooodness Soundsystem was there. And so am I.
