I know Jimmy Giuffre admired Ornette and they played some of the same venues. But did they ever play together and more importantly was it recorded? Anyone know? Giuffre+Coleman would be mad out there!

I'll be going to see Ornette for the first time late October this year. All the stuff I've read around here by other people who went to see him in the last couple of years makes me look forward to this with great expectations!

I saw this guy play in 2005 when I was 18 and it was one of the most wonderful experiences of my life. I hardly even knew his name, but my Dad and I wanted to see some live jazz so thats what we did. This guy is easily one of the greatest sax players every, easily somewhere in the top five, best damn player around now probably since Bird and Coltrane are dead. Im glad he's still touring. His grandson plays drums for him! His whole band is just terrific. COME BACK TO TORONTO MR COLEMAN PLEASE!... What makes Ornette Coleman one of the major inovators of jazz music is his vision to break the close and stubborn ties to what other musicians already played. He shaped the jazz to come with artistic brushes of the unusual and the unpredictable. The socio-political climate was mature enough for someone to open a way to other musicians to the ultimate jazz privilege - freedom. Even at age of 77, he plays considerably good. I regret I was unable to attend his concert at the Skopje Jazz Festival...
