In the fall of 1999 after taking a break from various musical projects, Michael Czirjak, (founder and author) began committing to tape what would later become Prom King. The thought was: simple songs, personal words and lots of melodies. Since spending the better part of a decade as the “guitarist /back-up singer,” it was a natural progression and a welcomed change. After playing his unfinished renditions to friend and drummer Steve Decker, It was suggested the he make a demo of the songs on an old Tascam 8-track in a studio they shared. The process went so smooth, that a live band was assembled and a Prom King shows were booked during the winter of 2001. Taking a break in the spring to finish more songs, Michael decided that the next step would be capturing the songs through a professional recording. While searching for the right studio, the Prom King demo was sent to Sound Spa owner/producer/musician Stevie Deacutis. After listening to the demo, Stevie wanted to not only record it, but also get on board as the producer & member of the live band. In July 2001, Michael entered the studio with Stevie to record the 6-song disc titled Prom King: Songs in the Key of P. A more complex version of the demo was constructed, with multiple harmonies, various effects, string arrangements and keyboards. The final result is grand mixture of pop/rock songs that have truly been captured in the perfect light. Thanks for listening…enjoy!
