Passive found their origins in 1997 when four very young and very naive individuals decided they were going to start a band. With aspirations of instantaneous rock stardom these ambitious schoolboys quickly became disillusioned with the music industry. There was no sign of the groupies or multimillion-dollar recording contracts, but instead the taunts of friends and family encouraging them to give it away while they were still ahead. Two years and a few line up changes later, Passive are slowly but surely starting to gain some momentum.
To be unnecessarily cliché, it could be said that these five young lads produce a sound that is hard to pigeonhole, and not through lack of trying. From unashamedly hard rock to pop driven harmonies, Passive continue to produce new and original music at a rate of knots; music that culminates in a passionate and entertaining live show that continues to win new fans across Australia.
After releasing a self financed demo / EP in January of 1999 (do I do it for attention?) the band has been blessed with a number of opportunities, namely a spot on the bill for the 1999 “Rockin’ the East” festival, along side such big name Australian acts as Jebediah, Area 7, Motor Ace and more. All things going to plan the band hope to be back in the studio in the next few months to start work on a full scale EP, hopefully to be released sometime during 2000. With an average age of only 17, the future for Passive looks very very promising.
