20 years after the peaceful revolution in Germany, PAUL VAN DYK - the internationally known electronic music composer, producer and performer - has written “We Are One,” an anthem to the fall of the Berlin Wall, which will be presented during the “Festival Of Freedom” 20 Year Anniversary festivities at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin this Monday, November 9, 2009. The following day, Tuesday, November 10, iTunes will make the song available worldwide.
VAN DYK and vocalist Johnny McDaid of Vega 4 will perform “We Are One” in the presence of heads of state from all over the world at the historic celebration taking place at the German capitol landmark. Germany’s Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Russian President Dimitri Medvedev, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and numerous winners of the Nobel Peace Prize will be in attendance at this emotional event.
The soundtrack for this unique gathering will be provided by music from the world’s top musicians. As a wall of 800 oversized dominoes positioned near the former run of the wall between “Reichstag” and “Potsdamer Platz” will be symbolically knocked down, several orchestral pieces by the Staatskapelle Berlin, conducted by Daniel Barenboim, and U.S. rock icons Bon Jovi performing their current single “We Weren’t Born To Follow” will be heard. When the final domino topples, PAUL VAN DYK will close with a fireworks finale of “We Are One,” an anthem that will leave none untouched.
“It is an incredible honor to be allowed to present my ‘We Are One’ anthem on November 9 against such a fantastic backdrop. The events of 20 ago still move me very personally. I have invested a lot of time and emotion in this project,” said the musician, creator of the song with McDaid who also collaborated with him on his current #1 chart-topping single “Home.”
PAUL VAN DYK grew up in East Berlin, East Germany, immigrating to West Germany just before the wall fell in 1989. After its demise, VAN DYK returned to Berlin and began his unprecedented career there. He has become not only a youth idol but on his many international tours also a musical ambassador of a unified Germany, whose views are much sought after by politicians and political commentators.
