I recommend the box set "the time as come 1967-1973" which includes no less than 20 previously unreleased tracks

I saw Pentangle last Fri in Waterloo. They were rockin. They are undoubtly the best band I have seen live in a very long time.
Am sending them all faerie hugs

Pentangle are one of the few bands I am genuinely addicted to. Let's see if we can get a discussion started here... Here's my take on their original five albums: THE PENTANGLE: Original, but not as mind-blowing as the band could be. Easy to overlook because just about everything they do here will be done better on later albums. Here's my take on their original five albums: THE PENTANGLE: Original, but not as mind-blowing as the band could be. Easy to overlook because just about everything they do here will be done better on later albums. SWEET CHILD: It's strength and weakness is that half of it feels like a compilation of members' solo albums and side projects. A lot of greatness, and always interesting, but scattered, sort of like the Beatles White Album. BASKET OF LIGHT: My favorite. Has the most concentrated energy of any of the albums. Also the most psychedelic album ever recorded with only acoustic instruments. CRUEL SISTER: Good, but such a straightforward folk-rock album that it fails to live up to the greatness of the other albums. But the 18-minute Jack Orion has great musicianship and vocals from everyone, so it's a tough call. Nonetheless, it's not surprising that this album started the band's decline in popularity, since it's not nearly as interesting as its predecessor. REFLECTION: Way underrated and awesome! The funky, phased electric guitar is dangerously close to being cheesy, but it works for me. Different and not really representative of their sound because Bert Jansch is less dominant (although he's more present than on Cruel Sister) than usual the traditional songs are all American and the originals are, for Pentangle, pretty conventional-sounding. Still true to the group's greatest qualities. SOLOMON'S SEAL: The band sounds more controlled and less lively, but the songs are still good enough to make it worthwhile. Danny and Terry usually had an amazing knack for sounding both tight and all over the place, but here they just sound tight. If I'd been introduced to the band with this album, I'd have thought they were a good, mellow folk-rock band. But the Pentangle, at their best, are not really that mellow, and not really folk-rock. Something about the recording sessions must have not worked for them, because live, they performed these songs much better.
