THANK YOU FOR 2008!
Its about that time of year where we all get a bit reflective about what's gone down over the last twelve months.
For peregrine it's easily been our biggest ever - at least in terms of the sheer number of shows we've done outside of our hometown. I think at last count it was in excess of 70 performances outside of Sydney in the last twelve months.
There's so many great things that come from that. One is friendships with amazing people that you might otherwise have never met. Two is seeing this country (and a few others too) in great detail. I don’t know if any of you have ever taken that road from Mildura to Adelaide – the part around Kingston/Blanchetown where you see the Murray for the first time – huge limestone cliffs, the apple green water (polarised sunnies exaggerate it a little), and those stark dead trees sticking out. I mean I know it’s a tragedy, but boy is it pretty. That’s worth a two-day drive in my book.
I also had the joy of performing with Kate Adams in Germany and Paris this year, and can't wait to go back and do it all again. I feel very blessed that people like these songs enough in such far away places to give me that kind of experience.
Some of ourbest memories (compiled by Brett and Felix):
- Launching 'Stay Inside and Misbehave' to a packed Basement with Paul Greene
- Doing a last-minute bonfire-lit gig in a Mildura vegie patch
- Singing atop a double decker bus in Magdeburg's town square
- Jamming with Aussie expats in a tiny Parisian café
- Turning up to Port Macquarie a day too early and doing a free show on the jetty
- Diving off the ‘Alma Doepel’, and hearing about ‘Big Mick’ the timber cutter
- Felix's short shorts - a hit in steamy Brisbane, a crime in Moree
- Developing an unhealthy new touring tradition: a bottle of whiskey post every show
- Singing 'God Only Knows' at a sold-out Vanguard with the cats from Brass Knuckles
- 'Love Lost'
- Felix punching a hole in his guitar during 'Love Lost' at Canberra's Transit Bar
- Mark 'Hulk' Holbert's bed-hopping
- Sharing bills with Renny Field, Tim Ireland & Abbe May's Rockin Pneumonia
- The Hussy Hicks. Nick and Liesl. Awesome.
- Asking the crowd at Melbourne's Toff in Town if anybody had a place for us to sleep
- The cook-up the next morning (boy, did we score!)
- Swimming with The Captain and Felix in the Murrumbidgee River
- Silo chilli jam in Canberra, narrowly edging out Melbourne for best breakfast
- Listening to over 20 stand-up skits from Sydney to Adelaide and back
- Meeting Melanie Horsnell's firstborn, Gypsy
- Hearing Hulk's string arrangements played by the Ghisla Gals
- Rocking The Factory Theatre in peregrine's last big Sydney show for the year
- Walking off-stage afterwards to find out Wes Carr won Idol.
We're very much looking forward to capping off the year at Peats Ridge Festival. Most of our favourite Australian acts will be there, hope you'll be there too. If you haven't yet made New Years plans, tickets are still available.
2009
So what's in store for 2009? Well if you live in Sydney, you might see a little more of us - we're in talks about doing a new residency.
Brett will also be kicking off 2009 with a solo show in support of Candian songstress Ann Vriend at The Basement, the details for which are below.
We will definitely be recording a new album next year. We really want you to be part of the process – be it recommending songs you like, taking photos, shooting videos, or just rocking out the way y’all always do at our shows.
As always we thank you for your wonderful support. Some of you have been tireless in your efforts to keep us on the road and we’re super grateful.
Merry Xmas
Love Brett, Felix, Mark, Mat and The Cap’n
