My grandfather was thirteen in 1893 when his father, a rancher and part time bank teller in Delta Colorado, was shot and killed in a bank robbery. After that my grandfather had to go to work as a cowhand to support his mother and the family of eight young boys. He built log cabins and split rail fences, ran cattle and raised horses, and drove mule teams hauling coal?whatever he had to do to survive. I grew up at my grandfather?s knee, hearing about his early adventures in the mountains of Colorado. These stories have had a big impact on my life and on my music.
I have had the honor to play lead guitar with or open for some fine musicians, like Chuck Berry, Tim Hardin, Ramblin? Jack Elliott, Poco, Vic Briggs of the Animals, Jon Fishman of Phish, and many others. But only in the past couple years did I start writing and singing my own music and performing as a soloist and front man for my own rock trio.
Since moving to Madison in late 2005 I have been performing with Gergory Merrick on drums and Steve Brown on bass. Gregory, incidentally, was the drummer in my high school rock band, and he's top notch.
