The groundwork for Plain Wight was laid in 2002, when guitarist Jesus Butler and drummer Liam Sumnicht began jamming and writing songs together. In early 2004, bassist Ben Johnston joined the band to complete the line-up. Since then the band has played sporadically throughout the Kansas City area, sharing stages with such acts as Flee the Seen, Vanilla Funk, The Supernauts, One Degree Difference, and members of The Leo Project. Their style could be described as Audioslave meets Killswitch Engage, indicative of their fusion of straight up hard rock with elements of metal. Drawing on many influences, Plain Wight aims to craft songs that range from raucous head bangers to more melodious, thought provoking pieces, all with the intent of creating a moving, memorable experience for the audience.
