Radiosamizdat is comprised of two concepts: radio and samizdat. The first, 'radio,' is a quintessentially Western technology born at the turn of the century. The second, 'samizdat,' is a Russian word meaning, literally, 'self-publishing.' It refers to the process of distributing information through underground means, and originally referred to copying and disseminating banned books in what is now the former Soviet Union. Today the term refers to any media that is rare or hasn't been formally published. With the release of our new CD, 'Broadcast,' Radiosamizdat hopes to pay tribute to those who braved a lot more than mere artistic criticism to distribute their work and ideas. Although its seeds have floated about in our collective thoughts for years, Radiosamizdat was created in 1999. Let us know what you think...
