8084 to reunite for tour with Hirsh Gardner of New England and Randy Smith
The melodic rock world is abuzz about the upcoming package tour which includes performances by this group of AOR mainstays for the first time ever. "These shows are going to be wild. It's going to be loose and rocking", notes Smith. "We are not going to do separate sets that leave the audience with long intermissions. We are all going to play and back each other up. I'm singing and I can't even predict what is going to happen."
8084 have long been a staple in the AOR world. The group was formed in the mid-80s and quickly garnered the attention of radio, press and fans around the world with the release of their first album. Songs such as Bad Man and Hold On made the music world take notice. Within months of the release, their self-titled album quickly sold over 10,000 copies in The Netherlands alone. Other acclaimed releases followed and associations with producers like Gardner and Aldo Nova fueled continued interest in the group. The band has toured with the likes of Toto, Warrant, Blue Oyster Cult, April Wine, and Edgar Winter to name a few.
Also on the bill will be New England's Hirsh Gardner, who will be performing songs from New England as well as tracks from his solo career. New England rose to rock prominence in 1979 with their top 40 hit Don't Ever Wanna Lose Ya and tours with Kiss, Journey, Styx, AC/DC, Thin Lizzy and Cheap Trick. The group recorded a total of three albums for MCA and Elektra during their time together. The group's catalogue has been released on CD in Japan, Europe and the U.S.
Rounding out the bill is Randy Smith, 8084's lead singer who is doing these shows to promote the release of his debut solo album, "Bittersweet", slated for a July release on the New York City based GB Music label. The shows will be a musical bridge between Randy's time with 8084 and the present and future as a solo artist.
All the musicians involved have known each other for years, dating back to when Gardner produced 8084's debut album. While they have worked in the studio countless times, they have never toured together before though so the show should be quite an event. With all the rock luminaries in the various performers speed dial you never know who will be popping by to join the group on stage.
