"Ray continued to record amazing country standards, which would influence so many other R&B/Blues artists to follow the same Which would include Tina Turner, Esther Phillips, Joe Tex, Candi Staton, and Aretha Franklin. With this song Charles keeps the country back drop and style and timing, and vocal arrangement, though he infuses, church in his phrasing, and his funky keyboards. He sings so "as a matter of fact" that one see's this is a real man. Ray isn't whining, he is stating. He sings this song so convincingly, and his version stands proudly along side George Jones'. This pounding version upholds the country stylings of the original recording, while still adding some attitude and soul as only the greats can. Blending the original with new. This song is one of my favorite songs of all time. Other great soul singers snging country are Tina Turner "Lovin him was easier" and Esher Phillips "Am I that easy to forget?""
