Ricardo Montaner – Las Cosas Son Como Son
"This is the most beautiful album of my career, of my life…this time I did not keep anything to myself…”
Sometimes while living our fast paced lives, we forget to stop for a moment and appreciate the real important things. We disregard the significance of the most simple and basic things in life like the happiness and peace of mind we obtain from our family, our loved ones, being at peace with one’s self. This is exactly what Ricardo Montaner wants to remind us with his new and long awaited album, “Las Cosas son como son.” The album was written in its entirety in Europe, during a period of contemplation and search experienced by the artist.
Without a doubt one of the best known qualities of Ricardo Montaner throughout his career has been his deep sensibility. Now, Ricardo brings us this sensibility on each and every one of the lyrics included in this new album. An album that also reminds us of his great talent as a performer, the heartfelt sound of his voice and his unparallel charisma.
Ricardo wrote the 12 songs included in the album, which was recorded in Milan, Italy, Madrid, Spain and Miami, FL, and it was produced by Adrian Posse.
The first single “Para un Poco,” motivates us to stop and enjoy the real meaningful things in life. The lyrics say “Stop a little, save some love for tomorrow. Three or four kisses and a wish for later. Stop a little, open the windows, all this tossing and turning doesn’t leave us time to talk.”
While the song that gives its title to the album, “Las Cosas Como Son” makes us think about the importance of loving with no reservations, to give everything for love and find through this action the meaning of life. “If you are not giving the same love you receive, if it’s so hard for you to give for no reason, if you don’t bet everything you have and more, nothing else is worth it.”
“Yo Canto” is another song that stands out because of the strong message of its lyrics. One of the characteristics of Montaner has always been his social consciousness. This social awareness is fully represented in this song. The touching lyrics are a plea for the dispossessed and most in need within our society. “I sing because I must do something, I scream for love of the kids and the poor of my Americas. I sing for hope, for the faith of the soldier, the HIV patient, the teacher, the student, the driver.”
Just like that, story after story, Ricardo Montaner presents a complete album full of 12 great songs with subjects that are universal and deeply touching. He describes the feeling of losing the one you love on Me Fui, Doce y Media y Pobres Corazones; sings about being prepared for the changes that life might bring on Si se apaga mi voz; of the attraction and charm that women represent on Esa Mujer; about how time goes by and we sometimes don’t even notice how we stop paying attention to our loved ones on Tanto, Tanto; about the secret and silent language of lovers on Son Amores; irrational love and willingly falling for the wrong person in La Amo; and about the unavoidable sadness caused by a goodbye, even before you leave in Volver.
This is an amazing album, brimmed with sentiment and romanticism. There is a reason why Ricardo considers this “the most beautiful album of my career, of my life…this time I did not keep anything to myself…”Las Cosas Como Son hits store on February 24th.
The son of Argentinean parents, Héctor Eduardo Reglero Montaner was born and spent his early years in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. He moved to Venezuela just before he reached his adolescence.
To face this new reality, young Montaner fought against the insecurities of adolescence by turning to music and sports. "I studied in a Claretian Catholic school, played any sport I could and taught myself to play guitar and drums. Music gave me security.”
He channeled his growing interest in music into groups that he formed with friends, and rock and pop bands. At the age of 17, while performing, a producer spotted his talent and launched him as a soloist with the single entitled Mares (Seas) in 1978.
A decade later, with too many failed attempts behind him, and having thus far been unable to find the long-awaited opportunity, Montaner sang at a beauty pageant in Venezuela and won the hearts of almost 20,000 people.
The singer’s fortunes continued to improve in the wake of his success with the song Yo Que Te Amé, from the 1986 album Ricardo Montaner 1. This production made Montaner’s name well-known in key Latin American markets, which continue to be his today.
By 1988, with his album Ricardo Montaner 2, and after a dramatic role in Venezuela’s then most popular soap opera, Niña Bonita, he had consolidated his meteoric artistic rise.
The recordings and awards never stopped coming: in 1990, Montaner released the album Un Toque de Misterio; (A Touch of Mystery) followed in 1991 by, En el Ultimo Lugar del Mundo (At the Last Place in the World). The latter won the Gaviota Prize, the highest award given at the famous song Festival of Viña del Mar, in Chile (in fact, Montaner has won all the awards at the Viña del Mar Festival: the Silver Torch, the Golden Torch, and the Gaviota). He has also been singled out by Billboard Magazine as Male Singer of the Year. In 1992, his native Venezuela honored him for the first time as the country’s best performer. They have given him this same award repeatedly over subsequent years.
No matter how difficult or demanding the venue, be it Mexico's National Auditorium or New York's Madison Square Garden, Montaner, the citizen of the world, plants his flag and conquers. Without any artificiality, millions of spectators throughout the Americas have enjoyed his always sold-out presentations and has enjoyed his talent and gifts as an artist and as a human being.
