Surviving the wor...
More...Surviving the world of pop is hard. And having longevity after Australian Idol is a challenge unto its own. Add that to being an Australian Independent artist competing against the multi-million dollar major-signed artists and you have the unlikely formula that is Ricki-Lee’s success-story, only four short years in…
It’s true: SEVENTOP 20 SINGLES, TWO GOLD ALBUMS, ONE PLATINUM HIT, TWO INTERNATIONAL RECORD DEALS, THREE NICKELODEON KIDS CHOICE AWARDS, HUNDREDS OF LIVE PERFORMANCES, THOUSANDS OF MEDIA INTERVIEWS and a career that’s extended it’s reach into TV presenting and radio this year, has ALL come from the heavy challenges Ricki-Lee has set herself and her team. Hardworking Coulter, who has achieved what no other Australian Idol Top 12 evictee (or winner) has been able to do to date, that being major commercial charting success on Independent terms, claims the risks she invested in were well worth the gamble.
“I’ve made a lot of left of field decisions over the last four years, from signing with an indie label over a major back in 2005, to signing with a young female manager exclusively instead of a big name management company with lots of artists, right through to releasing my very first single with the word “HELL” in it and risking grandmothers all around the country hating me…” smiles Ricki-Lee.
Luckily, the nanna’s of Australia have embraced the “hell” in Ricki-Lee’s “no” or at least turned a blind eye, and the good news is they will probably take an even bigger liking to her current album package out for Christmas, RICKI-LEE: THE SINGLES. Her singles album RELEASED ON NOVEMBER 8TH through PUBLIC OPINION/SHOCK RECORDS is a double-disc compilation package which includes 15 audio tracks on one disc showcasing her 7 x hit singles: HELL NO!, SUNSHINE, BREATHE, CANT TOUCH IT, LOVE IS ALL AROUND, CANT SING A DIFFERENT SONG & WIGGLE IT and 7 x hit remixes by CABIN CREW, ROK COALITION, VINYL PUSHER, DJ DEZASTER plus bonus b-side track, OVER THE RAINBOW and the entire collection of all her music videos on the second disc.
Having written music in Sydney, Melbourne, LA, New York and London, Ricki-Lee has now worked with some of the biggest names around the world, such as KNS (Britney Spears, Gia Farrell, Backstreet Boys, 50 Cent), DAVID GAMSON / MARC NELKIN (Madonna, Chakra Khan, Luther Vandross) VINCE PIZZINGA (Delta Goodrem, Anthony Callea, Wyclef Jean), AUDIUS MTAWARIRA (Delta Goodrem), JARRAD ROGERS (Guy Sebastian, Lauren Hill) & PETE MARTIN / ANDY LOVE (Sugababes, Big Brovaz) resulting in a string of killer hitsthat has made up the playlist for her current album package.
Getting ready to relocate to LOS ANGELES early next year to work on her FORTHCOMING STUDIO ALBUM, Ricki-Lee will return with a new, edgier pop sound and a fresh approach to her music after a hectic and somewhat tumultuous year of growth and change. Taken from the final page of the current album in which she delivers a beautiful message about her journey and success since leaving Idol, she says “Thankyou to everyone who has supported me and even those who have questioned and critiqued me over and over again, because I believe I have only grown stronger and become a better artist because of those experiences…I also believe the best is yet to come in 2009”.
In the meantime, Ricki-Lee is celebrating the massive success of the past four years. RICKI-LEE: THE SINGLES AVAILABLE NOVEMBER 8TH, 2008.
