  • Nothing Rhymes With Orange Tour Support + another review

Delighted to announce that Rieser will be supporting America's Nothing Rhymes With Orange [http://www.msplinks.com/MDFodHRwOi8vd3d3Lm5yd28ubmV0Lw=]at their gigs in Birmingham and Glasgow in June.  Check the Gigs pages on the website for the details.

Music-News.com, Susan Ford in particular, has reviewed the Drinking Den EP and have given it 4 out of 5.

'Drinking Den' is the new E.P. to come from Scottish band Rieser and is a fantastic collection of songs that captures the band's beautiful indie-pop sound in all its glory. The acoustic guitar and honeyed vocals of title track 'Drinking Den' are juxtaposed with bursts of electric rock setting this song ahead of the others. As a single, Drinking Den is one of the best Scots rock debuts of the year.

The E.P. as a whole is a refreshing concoction of melody and atmospheric pop, steeped in quality song writing and execution. They then throw in their signature subtle ska touches and their trademark sound is complete. Leadsinger Chris Blair provides brilliant clear vocals leading us through the tracks one by one in stunning precision.

Their chirpy charisma shows through on track 'Ringmaster', as the band rock up and electrifies a well-known circus theme tune throughout the song. Second track 'The Actor' is quirky and fun with touches of Oasis, if Oasis ditched Liam for a sweeter sounding Justin Currie. 'Call Me Round' provides a perfect pop anthem similar to early Travis classics.

Although Rieser have been playing for years, Drinking Den is the E.P. that will rocket them into the limelight. The light pop feel, slinky vocals and strong indie-rock backbone give Rieser a quality sound and a faultless collection of tracks. 4/5

The Daily Record Reviewed the EP on Friday 27 March.
THE band's 2007 debut album The Well Dressed Thief included the song Rockstar. But judging by the band's new music - the leather trousers are in storage. Always a group that refused to play one style, on the Drinking Den EP at least it seems they are going for that crusty folk beloved of The Wonder Stuff or The Levellers. The title tune dances like a wacked out hippy around a fire. The Actor could be from The Wonder Stuff's back catalogue. The bass bounces along so The Actor can't be John Gielgud. Maybe a youngster like David Tennant. Call Me Round is back to trippy folk and blissed out vocals. Even final tune The Ringmaster which starts with a great rip-roaring guitar falls back into an acoustic campfire guitar blur. But there's a nice line "my god the clown's are coming" and the famous circus theme played on the guitar.

The List Magazine - www.list.co.uk[http://www.list.co.uk/ has just given the EP 4/5. "Drinking Den by Rieser builds and builds into an epic and blustery slice of musical brilliance".

    And.....
'Drinking Den' is the excellent new EP from Scottish soft-rockers Rieser; more 'alt' than pure indie Rieser have a very mature and extremely polished sound that actually makes it hard to pigeonhole them - quite right too, Rieser don't fit just one bill so why should they be stuffed into an overused category with the more mundane and less talented!

Regardless of genre or persuasion, Rieser straight away scream 'quality'; this guitar driven foursome seem to know and understand the 'ropes' and use all of their individual and collective prowess to lay down something just a bit better than most could manage. The vocals rise and swell above the electric backdrop with great confidence and easy power; never sounding at all strained or stretched Chris Blair manages his throaty God-given gift quite magnificently. Blair's rhythmic guitar work is beautifully proportioned to add colour and depth to the precision bass of Mike Edie and the ever-so-precise drums of Graeme Chyla. Lead guitarist Greg Jones sticks very much to the essentials and never forces his deft guitar work to interfere with the overall unity and solidarity of the band. Add to all of that the tasty harmonies (at times up to three-part!) and you've got yourself a very tidy, very professional, mature sound. Rieser play very much as a unit; there's no showy solo stuff goin' on, no big ego trying to push the others out of the way, just four guys doin' what comes naturally and doin' it extremely well, and together.

Ok, so we've established that the guys can play but they still need the creative resources to be able to do the job properly; well, Rieser excel in that department too; 'Drinking Den' offers the listener four well written and beautifully crafted songs that sit comfortably within the realms of indie/rock but have the occasional underlying nuances of 'trad folk' propping up the more contemporary sound - oh it's subtle but it's there if you listen hard enough - and it works. 'Drinking Den' by Rieser consists of the title track plus 'The Actor', 'Call Me Round' and 'The Ringmaster', it's a polished and proficient release that showcases the professionalism and musical maturity of Rieser - four great tracks from a crackin' sounding outfit!!
