PRESS REVIEWS of The EP "DRINKING DEN" (Released 4 May 2009)
“Drinking Den by Rieser builds and builds into an epic and blustery slice of musical brilliance” 4/5
Camilla Pia, The List Magazine, March 2009
“THE band's 2007 debut album The Well Dressed Thief included the song Rockstar. But judging by the band's new music - the leather trousers are in storage. Always a group that refused to play one style, on the Drinking Den EP at least it seems they are going for that crusty folk beloved of The Wonder Stuff or The Levellers. The title tune dances like a wacked out hippy around a fire. The Actor could be from The Wonder Stuff's back catalogue. The bass bounces along so The Actor can't be John Gielgud. Maybe a youngster like David Tennant. Call Me Round is back to trippy folk and blissed out vocals. Even final tune The Ringmaster which starts with a great rip-roaring guitar falls back into an acoustic campfire guitar blur. But there's a nice line "my god the clown's are coming" and the famous circus theme played on the guitar."
Rick Fulton, The Daily Record, March 2009
“Rieser are just a damn good guitar band with some great songs. And to think Rieser are unsigned. A sad indictment of the times. Excellent…..Rieser could be the next great Scottish export.” 5/5
David Randall, Get Ready To Rock, March 2009
“Rieser scream ‘quality’…a polished and proficient release that showcases the professionalism and musical maturity of Rieser…a crackin’ sounding outfit!!”
Toxic Pete, March 2009
"The Drinking Den EP kicks off with the eponymous track. A catchy hook of a chorus, this song will wheedle its way into your consciousness and have you singing it for hours afterwards...... if Rieser go on turning out tunes like this, washed up is the last thing they'll be. It gets the blood flowing well and Blair's vocals show strength and wide range in this...... having received considerable airplay on several continents for this EP, the future for this band looks very bright indeed."
Caroline McCarthy, AllGigs.co.uk, April 2009
"Edinburgh quartet Rieser have a sound that imagines a head on full speed collision between britpop and dour miserablism, jaunty melodies and rousing choruses set to arcing guitar histrionics and moody bass rumbles; somewhere sonically between Parklife era Blur and the Editors essentially.
Call Me Round; Rieser giving U2 a run for their money at their more ambitious and far reaching. Rieser are a band who sound on the verge of something special, the DRINKING DEN EP is a collection of songs that whilst not quite essential or revolutionary display a passion and drive to this Scottish quartet that certainly piques the interest."
Mike Bond, UKmusicreview.com, April 2009
"Drinking Den is the new E.P. to come from Scottish band Rieser and is a fantastic collection of songs that captures the band’s beautiful indie-pop sound in all its glory. As a single, Drinking Den is one of the best Scots rock debuts of the year. The E.P. as a whole is a refreshing concoction of melody and atmospheric pop, steeped in quality song writing and execution. Chris Blair provides brilliant clear vocals leading us through the tracks one by one in stunning precision. Although Rieser have been playing for years, Drinking Den is the E.P. that will rocket them into the limelight. The light pop feel, slinky vocals and strong indie-rock backbone give Rieser a quality sound and a faultless collection of tracks." 4/5
