Trends come and go, but great songs are forever. We all have certain songs that define the moments of our lives, highs and lows, loves won and lost. In the end, all of our stories need a soundtrack. Creating that music has become a passion for Scarlet Crush. "For us it's about capturing things we've all felt at some point while listening to music. There's that indefinable something that happens inside …a stirring of the spirit in response to the beauty of a melody or a vibe. I remember thinking that if I could give that feeling to someone else while I was playing music then I would be satisfied. It's a search for the perfect song…" says founding member Jeff Smetana. That search has kept the band busy. Formed in Orange County, California in 1998, this 5-piece outfit has become a mainstay on the local O.C. and L.A. scenes. Filling clubs, appearing on local TV and radio, and winning fans at every turn, Scarlet Crush has become known as a powerful creative force. Excelling in writing, recording and performing a catalog of consistently irresistible pop/rock, the band has enjoyed a very productive 2003 and looks forward to bigger and better things in 2004. Their debut CD entitled "Worth Waiting For" was independently released in 2001 to great reviews and widespread enthusiasm. Voted one of the Top 10 releases of 2001 (Orange County Register, Jan. 2002), the record displayed the band's abilities to craft catchy and crunchy songs about universal themes and personal experience. In 2002, Scarlet Crush elevated their game in a big way. In March the band took home 2 awards at the Orange County Music Awards. Voted "Best Pop-Rock Band" as well as "Best Song" for "Something To Say". In May they won the Cool Radio Battle of the Bands, outlasting hundreds of other performers at venues across Southern California. Cool 94.3 went on to spin the bands new singles "Something To Say" and "Tune In, Fade Out" over 800 times in just a few months. The band followed up in March of 2003 by repeating their O.C. Music Awards honors in both categories. This time "Tune In, Fade Out" was named "Best Song". The accolades and powerful performances continue to pile up, establishing the band as the premier power-pop act in SoCal! Scarlet Crush has completed their new CD "Summer’s Gone", recording in Toronto and Hollywood with noted producer Justin Gray. The album builds on the legacy of great songs and strong hooks, bringing together all the elements of a classic rock record. The band members are all solid, experienced players. Smetana (vocals, guitar), Sterzer (lead guitar), Dax Maddocks (vocals, guitar), Brett Scott (bass) and John Glover (drums) bring a wide variety of background and styles to the table. The results have been compared to classics like the Beatles and Beach Boys to current faves like Green Day and Weezer. "Like any other band, we hope to be known by our own identity. We're not afraid to use our influences, but we've worked hard to craft our sound and we're proud of it," says Maddocks. "We also know the hard work involved in success and we're not afraid of that either…" And so the search continues. Catch Scarlet Crush in 2004 and listen closely. You just might find the music to match the moments of your life.
