Scatterheart is starting a revolution! Armed to the teeth with Love, Feathers and Great Songwriting they are fighting to make Rock n Roll fun again. "There's no reason you can't leave a rock show feeling happy!", says Scatterheart lead singer Jesse Enright. "I spent my teen years in the DJ scene and I was amazed by the amount of energy a room full of people can create. With Scatterheart I wanted to create the same experience and energy, but with a live rock show!”
And that energy is building. The band is already stirring up audiences and press alike with music dubbed “Metric meets Billy Talent” and wild live shows described as “Scissor Sisters meets Metallica”. "The energy when I'm playing with Scatterheart is the craziest thing I've ever felt.", says guitarist Doug Fury. Fury, who was guitarist for Canadian rock goddess Bif Naked, is no stranger to huge venues and big crowds but insists that this is something different. "I feel like we have created a high energy, huge rock show, but with a positive vibe! We try to give our audience the excitement and theatrics that existed in 70's and 80's arena rock. Where has the personality gone in Rock n Roll? We're bringing it back!"
'The Masterplan', released March 10th 2009, is Scatterheart's debut full length album, but it has the sound of a band who knows where they're going. "We wanted to make a record that had elements of the classic albums we love, but with modern power and energy.", says drummer Mike Southworth. "Those classic albums took years to write and record and you can really tell by the depth in their production and songwriting. Bands like Queen, the Police and David Bowie inspire timeless art. That was our goal with this album."
Creating 'The Masterplan' was a big undertaking. Bassist Wes DeBoer elaborates, "Writing took about a year, and recording took about a year. We wrote at least 50 songs to get the 11 on the record." Nowadays, with recording budgets shrinking, not many bands are fortunate enough to spend that amount of time creating an album. Luckily for Scatterheart, both Mike and Doug make their living as record producers giving the band the time, equipment and space to experiment and create. In additon, Jesse is a yoga master who trained for years with gurus in India and looks out for the band's health and flexibility while Wes manages the bands image and web presence. Together, the band designs their own merchandise, promo materials and directs their own videos. A modern, all encompassing version of DIY.
Scatterheart isn't afraid to take chances. The band loves the unexpected. It's all about handstands during guitar solos, bubbles instead of pyro, and feathers instead of jeans and t-shirts. Scatterheat's love rock is so powerfull that by the end of the show the crowd screams... "SCATTERHEART LOVES ME!"
Yes they do.
