In trying to find the words to describe Semidivine, one will discover that it is tough to pinpoint what makes the music so captivating. It's edgy, it's tasteful, it's even infectious. But the quality that shines brightest through the songs is passion. One listen and you'll know that the guys in Semidivine are driven. They believe in the music they write. Frontman Nate Edmonds has followed the art of pouring out his heart and soul into the lyrics he pens. He isn't making up stories; he's screaming about the things that we all face every day, good and bad. It's this organic approach at poetry that takes the music from your speakers and puts it in your head, creating a soundtrack for your experiences. 'If you can relate to the music, then you can connect with the band. And the music will mean something to you,' reveals Edmonds. The slow, and often frustrating, evolution of the band is an interesting tale. Bassist Rek Mohr and lead guitarist Ryan Cooper have been playing together since the two were in high school. They asked drummer Ben Miller, who was at the time playing with Shaded Red - signed to WEA-distributed Cadence - to start writing with them. They wrote original material for several months, and shortly thereafter invited Nate to join them. As the following months went by, a seemingly endless routine of tracking and live shows ensued. The band evolved, developed and found a rhythm. So, fast forward to February of 2003. The band was ready to start working on a full-length release, and dove head first into writing all new material. They quickly discovered that this unit of four had the natural ability to compose powerful music with a message. Edgy songs like 'Sticks Stones' and 'Down Again' came right away, as did moody rockers like 'Burn My Name'. The guys delved into songs that dealt with strong emotional circumstances, one of the strongest being the disenchanted mid-tempo ballad 'Out of Nowhere'. Now, evolved and determined, the band is working harder than ever to achieve the success they know is within reach. 'The songs are better, the band is tighter, and the goals are more defined. We've never been this strong before', continues Edmonds...'The music makes a statement.' And that's the idea - The music speaks for itself.
