  • MTV "Best Breakout NYC" Top 20

We just found out this morning that Shagg is among the Top 20 finalists for MTV's Best Breakout NYC Artist Award! Huge thanks to the thousands of folks who listened to our song "Walk Through Me" and voted. We'll find out soon whether MTV selects us to perform at their VMA weekend pre-party ... stay tuned!

  • Just a reminder to get your groove on with Shagg, Chen Lo, Poe Picasso and Wordspit this Saturday night at Santos Party House, at 96 Lafayette below Canal (subway to Canal or Chambers). It's going to be a night of fun and funk and MCs rocking the mic.

Doors open at 6:30 PM, cover is $10 and includes our latest CD if you mention Shagg at the door. We go on at 10:00 PM, and there will be an afterparty immediately following the show at Pink@BLVD (199 Bowery).

    See you there!

  • Get Shaggy with Santos

Shagg headlines the OS Art House concert series at Santos Party House, Andrew WK's giant new music venue in Chinatown/Tribeca. Moby and Thurston Moore are regulars, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs played there mere weeks ago. Our show is Saturday, May 16 at 10:00 PM. Santos Party House is at 96 Lafayette Street, about a block below Canal. As before, the cover is $10 and includes our latest CD. Come at 7:00 PM to catch all four bands! Facebook people RSVP here.

  • Celestial event

Like Halley's Comet, Shagg comes by every so often. So you shouldn't miss our show on Friday, February 13, when we return to the stage to perform a set hosted by the OS Art House series. The show is at the John Street Bar and Grill, a divey place in the financial district that has 17 beers on tap. The cover is 10 bucks and includes a copy of our latest CD. The show starts promptly at 10:00 PM. See you then!

  • Ahem ...

VOTE If you've somehow missed the news, tomorrow is Election Day. This is the most important presidential election in a generation.

Go vote! Visit Vote411.org to find your polling place, and make plans to vote tomorrow.

  • Baggot Inn RIP 1996-2008

It has been a tough summer for music: this week we lost Isaac Hayes, and in July it was Hiram Bullock. Club closings are nothing new to New York City, but we were particularly sad to say goodbye to The Baggot Inn [http://www.baggotinn.com/baggot.html], which was a sort of home for us for our first few years as a band, up through our first CD release party (for the Peach EP). Here's a photo of that very gig for posterity.

  • Get our new album, cheap.

The very cool music store/social network Amie Street is now offering our album Buh Ba Ba Ba as a high-quality download (320 kbps), and super-cheap! These are DRM-free mp3 files, not copy protected or restricted to any particular software or device. As of this very moment, each track is only 15 cents, making the whole album $1.80, but the price will automatically increase with demand. What are you waiting for?

  • Getting festive, Al.

This weekend, while Prince was busy launching Coachella into the stratosphere, Shagg was competing for slots at the Afro-Punk Music and Film Festival this summer and the CMJ Music Marathon this fall. Our songs Between Words and Just Ain't Enough reached the top ten in their respective categories on OurStage after literally thousands of listens and votes. The semi-finals end on Tuesday at midnight. Check us out on OurStage and vote if you can!
