I am Shaun H. Mykals and I’m a digitally independent artist. You don’t know the term yet because you don’t know my story, so let me talk to you. Doing this has been exciting, challenging, frustrating, and empowering. "Urban Sophistication" is my first project on my label 710 Muzic. When I approached this project, I thought about what I missed on the radio. There is some great music out there but I really miss music with vocal styling. So I took ownership of the digital age and its technology to record and produce "Urban Sophistication." This gave me the freedom to put together my own body of music with full creative license. Producing this project wasn't easy. My studio wasn't high tech and my locale was local. It would have been nice to jet off to the Caribbean to record but the closest I got to Jamaica was Jamaica, Queens. LOL! Seriously, it’s good that being a digitally independent artist is a reality because the temporary set backs of bad label deals, broken promises, and closed doors can push your dreams right out the door. This project, "Urban Sophistication," is the promise I kept to myself. On the first single, "Rolla Coaster," I can hear my process. Listening to it, I remember challenging my own voice, all the mixing, balancing, remixing. Most of my recording physically took place in some small spots at my home where the sound was right but the space was tight! I know you’re thinking the bathroom but that ain’t it. LOL. The mixed and mastered end product really surprised me. I'm my own worst critic, but I was able to make a product that I am very proud of.
