Back to the Shire:
"Sibelius is a fantastic composer of the early 20th Century. In this particular video, the conductor is a pinch over-dramatic, which unfortunately takes away from the fantastic drama and feeling of this piece called "Finlandia." A small bit of history for you: In Finland, where Sibelius hailed, his music regarded as so moving and so strong that a couple pieces were actually banned in various areas because of the effect the music would have on the listeners. At the same time, Sibelius was regarded as a national hero and the voice of the heart of Finland; there literally laws in Finland, passed by legislature, that regarded Sibelius as an exception to most laws, meaning he could pretty much do whatever he pleased without legal problems. Luckily for Finland, Sibelius was a fairly reasonable fellow and did not take much advantage of this extreme privilege. His music is not very widely known among the common audience, but any classical enthusiast and composer will know him to be one of the most dramatic and inspiring composers of the 20th century. One thing really worth noting about all his work is that he REALLY knows how to end a piece and end it in style and glory."
