The members of Sirus Coven ( pronounced ?seer-ihs coh-vin? ) started out in 2000 re-mixing their favorite artists music under the name grey : alien. They also made a few of their own songs which grabbed the attention of dance hall owner Greg Halloway. In 2003, Halloway produced their first album ?Hibernation? at which point they changed their name to Sirus Coven. The album even featured guest vocals by local star Paul Taylor and went on to sell quite well for a debut album from a then unknown group. The albums success earned them a spot on the LSS Music Festival ( an outdoor music event hosted by one of Cincinnati's best music newsletters). The groups luck seemed to be on an endless streak and at the end of the tour, Sirus Coven signed a sponsorship to endorse Korg equipment.
When 2004 came around the group re-entered the studio only to face musical differences with producer Greg Halloway. After a lengthy legal battle the group won back rights to all their music, but had to start over at square one due to court costs and the loss of studio assistance. It seemed like the group had seen it?s last days but fate had other plans. Paul Taylor enjoyed working with on the groups debut so much that he signed them to his privately owned independent label Event Records. Allowing them complete creative freedom, the group crafted an electronic epic known as ?the element and the effect? under Taylor?s production.
In 2005 they released ?Cinematic? and redefined their sound entirely. It was their most popular release to date and paved the way for many opportunities including the Cincinnati Museum's "Space Age" exhibit, soundtrack work for video games, and a tv spot for the Helio Ocean multimedia mobile device.
The group uses all revenue from their music to fund Green Myriad, an organization they created to educate the public on environmental dangers occurring all over the world. Both members are highly influenced by the wonders of space and belong to Team S.E.T.I. and The Mars Project.
The group is currently working on their fourth album and anticipate a fall 2007 or early 2008 release.
