Solar Powered Rocket (S.P.R)… Well there is a lot to tell. The two founding members Dwayne Craddock and Tyson Kopp were in a band “Stalemate” before the birth of Solar Powered Rocket. Here we go. Tyson Kopp had been in Noyz Gate prior to Stalemate with SPR bassist Mike Lang. But in the spring of 2001 the bottom fell out of Noyz Gate and both Mike and Tyson went separate ways. Tyson was quickly acquired by Stalemate and started a new adventure with them. In the summer of 2001 Stalemate recorded the album “Nothing but Kings.” There were troubles within the band and it came time to find a new bass player. But Stalemate would not only get a bass player but a bass player that could write and sing his ass off. Dwayne Craddock joined Stalemate in the winter of 2003. And man what a difference this guy made. He could play the bass well and sing even better. Stalemate went into the studio to record “Free your Mind” in the spring of 2003. In January of 2004 Tyson and Dwayne, bored one day, decided to start jamming and try writing a tune. Dwayne would put down the bass, and pick up the guitar. They wrote the first SPR tune “Back to earth” and were so happy with the song and sound they started writing a few more. Tyson called Mike Lang and asked him to play some bass. “When we jammed for the first time it was like we had all jammed before, it was incredible. The way we all meshed was awesome.” It was SPR time. Dwayne, Tyson and Mike all got to work and started writing tunes. Everyday was a practice and writing for 6 months. Playing only one show in that time, the three of them were more concerned with getting into the studio and recording a good album. Juice (JMP productions), finished the pre-production and took a liking to what he heard from SPR, the band was ready to record the album they had long waited to do. August, Friday the 13 th was the start for SPR in the studio ready to record the self titled, debut album. Todd Kerns singing back up vocals on a handful of tracks added the extra punch needed for this album. With 9 original tracks and an innovative cover of the hit “Down Under” by Men at Work, The album takes you for a rollercoaster ride of good music from start to finish. Now out of the studio and getting back to work, getting the album out and starting to play some shows, SPR is ready for the world. Being only a three piece band and not wanting to over kill anything in the studio they couldn't pull off live SPR was to get to work with Mike on backup vocals. Having to sing what Todd Kerns sang, which is not easy, jamming for the first time with back ups, the band sounded better then ever. Now with the album almost ready and out the band is going to start playing some shows. So make sure you check it out, buy an album and request it on the radio if you like it. Well there you have it the story of SPR thus far. Hope you enjoyed and enjoy the music even more.
