Paul Fiocco (b. 1984) and Kane Ikin (b. 1982) live and work out of separate states in Australia. Solo Andata began in 2006 with their debut album Fyris Swan on Chicago label Hefty records. Paul lives in Perth, Western Australia, and is a graduate in philosophy. Kane lives in Melbourne, Victoria, and is a graduate in sound from the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts. Solo Andata’s compositions are created through the collaboration of sound from organic materials, field recordings, and instruments. Their latest record was recorded in Perth, Melbourne, Yallingup, Mundaring, and New York between 2007 - 2009.
XLR8R "A looming tapestry of undulating, post-rockian, free jazz-tinged, minutiae-detailing, electro-acoustic brilliance, Fyris Swan's chest-tugging magnitude is a striking testament to the role of time, space, and technology in composition. Solo Andata's restrained and measured efficacy benefits from their separation (its members live in Australia and Sweden), as the labored deconstruction applied to every element forms the album's hefty backbone. Each pluck and bowed, processed sound builds over an hour, culminating in the perfectly realized "Midnight”

Dazed + Confused "...there's a simplistic beauty at the heart of this project..."
BoomKat.com"Fyris Swan is a distinctly cinematic affair. The pair conjure the most delicate and wistful of acoustic-electronic landscapes. At times there’s only the most spartan of sonic elements at work and the whole album seems to be held together by the slightest of gestures and the lightest of touches, but all this understatement makes for an incredibly atmospheric, memorable album. ‘Coastal Road Thoughts’ is an especially blissful drift through gentle drones, incidental chimes and buried voices, whilst ‘A Ballet Of Hands’ is reminiscent in feel to the unearthly haze of Arve Henriksen’s Chiaroscuro album. Recommended. "
The duo display a feel that is gimlet-eyed and spartan, with woozy but tight harmonies winding through loops and whispers of distortion added for tonal color. There is something quite alluring about the discernment and lightness of touch that the duo possess in the ease with which they see the elements carefully through a varied series of deconstructions and reconstructions - moving blithely and effectively from glassine timbral masses, with piano rotating in eccentric orbits, to ethereal and minimalist, to finally a tempered sort of jazz, where isolated guitar lines sound over a shimmer of metallophones, embedded in a galaxy of bass drones.
