South Normal has a reputation for turning heads everywhere they go. In Detroit, a city deemed the Rock n’ Roll capital by so many of the world’s most influential artists, critics and fans, South Normal has risen to the top. Hailing from Chelsea, Michigan, a small Midwestern town outside of Detroit, this group of highly talented musicians combine elements of old school rock with a wide spectrum of modern influences to produce an extremely melodic and explosive rock sound that is all their own. Held together by powerful vocalist Nathan Mackinder, Bassist Jeremy Mackinder, Drummer Shannon Boone, and guitarists Ben Vermeylen and Jason Schaller, South Normal has mesmerized crowds and taken people back to a time when Rock n’ Roll was not just a listening experience, but a showcase of raw energy and reckless abandon. As stated by Emilio Lopez Vallejo, of melodic.net, “South Normal is a hard working band who plays like South Normal, AUTHENTIC is the word, a quality which not many bands can be described.” South Normal has just finished the controversial new album, “No More Songs About Girls.” The title, artwork and content of the album has caught the attention of the international music scene and the album is already up for review in several overseas publications. In addition to the Independent U.S. release, the album has been licensed for release in Australia/New Zealand in March of 2006. “I’ve come to grips with the fact that I am becoming a man, and men are better suited to find companionship with women. This album is a testament to my realization that I need to stop messing with girls and looking for a woman,” says Nathan. One listen to No More Songs About Girls and you will know exactly what Nathan is talking about. Harnessing such topics as promiscuity, infidelity, vengeance, dominance and Love, the 11 tracks comprising No More Songs About Girls, are anthems for anyone who has been betrayed by someone they love. The album was co-produced by Gregg Leonard, who in addition to his hard-hitting music production skills has worked extensively in the area of music licensing for Film and Television. As a result of the band’s relationship with Leonard, South Normal has been chosen for score and soundtrack in two major motion pictures due out in the Spring of 2006. The first film, FEED (Becker Entertainment/456 Records/Australia) is a dark psychological thriller involving a cybercrime investigator who tracks a man suspected of force-feeding women to death. The second film, Dimples (Lions Gate Films) is a horror movie featuring actors from that 70’s show and 90210. Feed will feature track #6, Tattoo, from No More Songs About Girls and Dimples will feature track #6, Shakin’, from the 2003, independent release, “Book of Matches.” South Normal’s music is also being considered for licensing on several major television networks. The Band’s songs are hook-filled, radio-ready hits that have landed them rotation on commercial and college radio stations throughout the Midwest and several international Internet radio stations. With good reason, South Normal recently represented Detroit in a Sponsorship with, Budweiser True Music Live. The band was showcased on the popular Internet website Budweiser.com and featured in a commercial that aired across the United States and Canada. The undeniable groove of the single, “White lies,” (Book of Matches) held the #1 position in Rock for 3 months on the popular independent music website, Garageband.com. Several other songs from the album produced by legendary rocker Michael Lutz (Brownsville Station, Ted Nugent) dominated the Top Ten in Rock on Garageband in 2003 and 2004. South Normal’s live show has an MC5 meets The Who brand of intensity that explodes from the first note and never lets up. It’s no surprise that the band has become one of the most popular rock acts in Detroit, playing for sold out crowds at ever club in the city and captivating audiences as far as Minneapolis and New York. The band’s following grows with every performance and the results are measured by the group’s popular internet website which has received over 3.3 million hits, 90 thousand visits and 14,000 music downloads in under 3 years. Pair an energetic rock show with songs that could top the charts in any market, you will have what South Normal Fans have declared, “The Leaders of the Rock N’ Roll Revolution.” For additional information, individual member bios, and upcoming tour dates, go to www.southnormal.com or www.myspace.com/southnormal.
