Steady On began, like so many things, as a simple project for fun. I had written many songs in the past years and wanted to get some recordings of them for postarity. Living in San Antonio at the time, I took my gutiar and my wife down to meet up with Lance, my best friend, and his home recording studio. He'd mostly been mixing stuff for his church and a few other groups. I got an old friend still living in Houston to lay down some electronic drums, and a girl from the youth group at our old church to help us out with the higher harmonies. Such a simple plan, but as they say- no battle plan survives the first shot . . .
The quality of the demo was excellent, but I knew we could do better. And now that I had a taste, I wanted to go all the way. So Angel (my wife) and I started looking for a more permenent singer to sing the rest of my songs so we could do a full CD. We started playing live in the community to get some experience under our wings, so Gabe and Joe both joined up to help us out on the live shows- Steady On was born.
My old friend from Houston, Paul, kept playing drums for us, simply because he's that good and it'd be hard for me to work with anyone else while he was even remotly available- and he just kept driving into town for gigs.
The first singer we worked with didn't stay with the group, so toward the end of the recording process we ended up searching again for a singer and finding Glenna. She did a fantastic job and we were really proud of the CD. Other than the drums and Hammond organ, the whole thing was recorded at Lance's house, now titled "Blue Couch Studios" and I think the quality is amazing, considering neither he nor I had done a project of this size before. We produced the album ourselves and had an absolute blast doing it. The CD was master by Bob Boyd at ambient digitial, and he really gave the music the polish that it needed.
Steady On continued to play live and build up followings in San Antonio and Houston, leading worship for churches and playing origional music at concerts.
Sadly, this season ended recently when my wife and I had to relocate to Atlanta, GA. Of course, that put an end to our live shows, but we are still going to be recording and Angel and I will hopefully still do some acoustic shows if we get the chance. We have some new music that we like better than all of the recorded stuff (of course) and can't wait to share it with you, so we're going to engage in a bit of remote recording.
At any rate, the mission of Steady On is ongoing- to encourage people with music to draw closer to God through music. We hope these songs will do that for you, for that is what it's really all about and why we'll keep making music as long as we have it to make.
