Stroszek are named after the 1976 Werner Herzog film. One of the greatest films ever made. 'Zek' is Russian slang for 'prisoner' or 'inmate'. Approximately just over a year old, Stroszek were formed in the bleak North-East city Aberdeen but now reside in the country's largest city, Glasgow. In early 2005 the band recorded their very earliest material and the demo version of No More Exclusives (the first song the band ever wrote) won the demo vote on Vic Galloways Air programme on BBC Radio Scotland in late 2005. Since then the band have devoloped as song-writers and musicians using technology to further the bands sound whilst still retaining that dark and minimalist gothic edge. Stroszek have developed their own style of post-punk electro-shoegaze. Hypnotic drum machine beats are complimented by driving bass, swirling guitar and electronic noise. The arrangements and melodies are memorable with the music and words stirring feelings of anxiety and beauty at the same time. For Stroszek, the lyrics mean as much as the music. The words are socio-political and you will find no cheesy lines about 'love'. From songs of Nationalism and Imperialism, to PTSD, justice and simple common sense, these are songs that matter and aim to make a difference without having to be on any moral highground.
