"Is rock dead?" Those who would answer "yes" to this question probably don’t have a real understanding of what "rock" is. As the four guys in San Diego’s Suntower would tell anyone willing to listen, rock is about letting loose; it’s not about moping onstage and groaning about the state of the world, and it’s not about trends. Rock is exhilarating in the same way a last-minute midnight trip across the desert to whoop it up in Vegas is exciting: it’s about letting it all hang out. This is exactly what Suntower does onstage. They "go off". They put every ounce of energy and passion into it. And they enjoy every minute of it. If Suntower were asked to describe themselves in a meaningful and salient way, the answer would be a confident "We Rock". This is something Suntower is proud of, and something those who see them live thoroughly appreciate…an intangible energy that bonds band to audience in a crazy display of solid music played with complete conviction. And “solid” music is an important concept in Suntower’s world, too. No bad songs. Really. They get thrown out, as the members of Suntower understand the importance of song and are never willing to sacrifice song for individuality, technicality, tricky uniqueness, or, worst of all, ska (!). No, that would compromise the standard these four songwriters have worked so hard to establish. Suntower’s combination of incredible songwriting and spectacular live performance is the result of hard work. No one is related to Don Was or Quincy Jones, and the members of the band simply met through friends of friends and classified ads. Kevin found Bryan, Bryan and Kevin found Vince, and Vince, Bryan and Kevin found Zed. But the Average Joe story behind the creation of Suntower is not indicative of the chemistry that shines through; the three years the band has existed has created a brotherhood between these guys, with an underlying common goal of musical excellence and success serving as the solid foundation to their friendships. Listen to 'Breakdown', Suntower’s most recent full-length CD, to hear what real rock in the context of mature and listenable songwriting is all about. See them live to hear, see, and experience what real rock is all about. See why 'Breakdown' has sold 2,500 copies locally since its July 1999 release. See why Suntower is a frequent attraction at all San Diego venues, such as the Casbah, Brick By Brick, the Belly Up Tavern, Canes, Schooners, 4th and B, and countless others. See why Suntower receives airplay on San Diego’s top radio stations, including Rock 105.3, 91X, and 92.5.
