Wow! Tuesday Night at Mercy Lounge was SO fun!
It had been some time since Matraca and Gretchen and I had played out and we must've needed a WW fix. Since we had new songs to play, we thought we'd have a little rehearsal Mon. night, but it turned into  "finish the cover of the EP and sign off on the mixes" so we were flying by the seats of our jeans on Tues. I personally think that makes it just a bit more exciting., and sweetly dangerous:)

The Mercy Lounge is such a great, down and dirty kind of hall that you don't fear that you'll say something offensive. There is a freedom for midwestern gals, like me, when you think you can really be "off the cuff".

Singing with M and G is just good for my soul. The audience was giving us love big time too, so we were all going for the high notes with gusto and mostly landing them! I love the little contests we have with the zingers interspersed our mutual admiration society. The punches help keep us from being sickenly sweet.

Guess we have one more show in the states before we head to the UK in May. We are doing a benefit on May 6th to help buy new seats for one of our favorite venues in Nashville, The Belcourt. My guess is we will schedule a rehearsal, make a very concerted effort to be organized, then fly by the seats of our jeans just like Tues. night! haha

We actually started the night in the afternoon with a stop by Audio Productions and a live interview with Ricky Ross on BBC Scotland. He's a performer as well and I think we could've gone on and on. but alas. Actually three lasses. I got kind of shaky doing "Heartache because we started talking about the impact that Lowell George had on me when I was in College. I used to drive all over to see Little Feat (sorry Mom). We were debuting new stuff and also there was the mental psych out of all of those Scots sitting in the Haggis bars listening to us:)

  • Arches National Park

    Hi Folks,

Played last weekend in Moab, UT, what a great place! Pat Bergeson and I had a chance to drive around in Arches National Park while we were there, so I wanted to send out this little video post card. Amazing!

  • 2008 Christmas Card

    Ho Ho Ho,

Just wanted to take this opportunity to say Happy Holidays. Hope you can appreciate the spirit of our card. Family fun and "Danger" are two of our favorite things!

Kind of relaxing during the season, but ready to fire up when the new year starts. I am really looking forward to 2009 and think the future looks bright!

I've added a few dates so you may want to check that out. We'll be filling it in and may be coming closer to you, so keep in touch.

We've done a Christmas facelift on the MySpace page. Something there that's probably new to you. See, Doug and I paid for our wedding, moved into a new house, and had no money for gifts, so we made a Homemade Christmas cassette in 1987. It was our family gift and now we are sharing it with you. Well, just a song or two. Guess you know we appreciate you, but after so many years with some of you, it IS almost family. Anyway, mushy, mushy.

Please know that we wish you good fortune and much happiness throughout the season, 2009 and even longer.

    : )

    Take care,

    Suzy

  • November Newsletter

    Hi Folks,

Guess its been a while since I sent a newsletter. A lot has happened in the world since August. I am remaining my same ol' cock-eyed optimist self and feeling some "Old Fashioned Love" is gonna cure what ails us.

I had such a fabulous time with Garrison Keillor and the Shoe Band along with Fred Newman on our Rhubarb Tour. I hope you followed along with the video blogs. I feel so fortunate to have been asked to do that. It really made an impact on me.

So, I will fill you in on some new things I've been working on this fall. Can't tell you everything yet, but I'll keep you posted!

    Keep your socks up!

Wine, Women and Song Tour -

Gretchen Peters, Matraca Berg and I are coming back to the UK this spring. We'll be doing 11 shows in 12 days - Yikes! There are some great venues and we're really excited about coming back. Hope all of my wonderful UK fans get to make it to one! We have some new songs and we'll be doing a longer show this time around. And, we've been spending some time together working on some surprises for our fans everywhere. Hint, hint...

Speaking of Gretchen and Matraca, how about this:
Matraca just got inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame!

...and Gretchen's been honored as well. She's been asked to join the Board of Advocates of Planned Parenthood along with some pretty stellar figures. She'll have more information at her site in a day or two.

    This Saturday In Chicago -
I'm really looking forward to this Saturday's show in Chicago at the brand new Morse Theater. I've been hearing rave reviews about the room. I'm just bringing Will Barrow and Matt McKenzie with me, as I've been really enjoying the smaller acoustic performances lately. Our friend Brad Colerick is going to open the show, with a solo set. Everybody come on down - let's pack the place! Looks like there's not a bad seat in the house!

    Tuesday Night Opry -
The Opry has moved to The Ryman Auditorium for the next few months and I'll be there this Tuesday. I love how it changes things. Both locations are fun for different reasons, but playing the Ryman stage is always chilling! I'm on with Del McCoury in the 8:00 hour. Wish I could sing as high as he does!

    New shows being added -
We're gearing up for after the holidays. I've added a few shows and more will be listed soon, so keep checking in. You folks in the east have been asking when I'm coming back - well, how about April?!

    How about a kiss? -
OK, you guys are getting a scoop here. This is not officially announced yet, but starting tomorrow you can bid on a kiss from me... or Jewel or Vanessa Williams or even George Strait! OK, it's just a piece of paper we kissed after applying lipstick, but hey, it's George Strait! And there's many, many others too. It's sponsored by Mary Kay cosmetics in association with the CMA awards this week, and it's all to help "kiss domestic violence goodbye!" The online auction will begin at 10:30 a.m. CST on November 11, 2008 and run until 5 p.m. EST on December 12, 2008.

  • Saturday In Seattle

Back in Nashville, still reeling from last night's show at The Triple Door in Seattle! Just have to take a minute to thank you all for coming to that show. It was so great to play with Denny and Will and the audience was perfect! You were so warm and tuned in. You even laughed at my jokes (OK, some of them.) I felt like I was singing in somebody's living room. I was also really thrilled to hear that so many of you heard about the show from different sources. For the past few years I'd been frustrated trying to let people know when I was coming to a particular town. It's so good to know that the internet and a little bit of advertising really paid off. I want to thank those of you who have already signed up to the email list, and to encourage those of you who haven't yet, to trust me with your email address. I promise to take good care of it! It makes things so easy when I can reach you directly to let you know when I'm coming to your city. Thanks again for a really memorable night and I hope to see you on Tuesday night, (oops, not this Tuesday night.) ;-)

  • Blogging in the soggy bog...raining here again today.

Blogging in the soggy bog...raining here again today.

I shouldn’t complain because the last four weeks this household has spent every spare minute in the yard, planting and trimming. We fired the landscape crew and took back our yard! woohoo! Forgot how MUCH work there is in the spring.

It all started when we realized that Ben’s scout troop was getting ready for the annual mulch sale and we needed to clear out some dead stuff from our drought last summer and be prepared for a 10 yd dropoff. Fortunately Ben is big enough to really help this year. Used to be as much work keeping him busy and cleaning up his creative messes as doing the lawn. He has really been a big help. I’ve been planting tons of perrennials. My eyes have been practicallly swollen shut for about 4 wks. Hmmmm, tree pollen.

Anyway, it’s looking good except for the small ponds from all the rain. OOps, I complained again. Shut mah mouth!

I’ve been out doing a few shows in between gardening and have had such fun audiences. Thanks all, for coming out to share some live music.

Have some news coming out in the next newsletter. Make sure your email is registered so you’ll get one.

I’ve been out to Napa, CA twice in the past few weeks. (could have something to do w/ swollen eyes too)I have been hanging out with my old friend Billy Dean and we have been dreaming up some some new trouble to get into. I have really missed him and it’s been fun to be with Stephanie again too. (We midwestern girls stick together )

School is almost out here and it’s so obvious that the kids are ready. It really takes me back to the feeling I used to get those first couple of weekday mornings that I wouldn’t have to get up. The weather would be nice and I would just lie there awake but not wanting to move. The whole day to do whatever. Mmmmmmm, I may have to go back to bed.

    It’s raining anyway.....
