  • EP Recording update -- guitars, guitars, guitars!

We did it! A couple of weeks ago we tracked drums and guitars for the new EP. It's shaping up nicely and over the holidays I put together some footage so you could hear some stuff. I regret not videoing the day I played the drums, but I was shy and uncertain it would sound right! I'm really happy with the results, though, and now I wish I had some video proof it happened! C'est la vie, I'm sure I'll do that again. I hope you enjoy seeing where things are at so far, and I'll keep you posted on where things go next...

I'm working overtime to finish the songs "Slow Climb" and another new one. I've axed "Heartbreaker"--it just hasn't come together yet, and I'm not feeling it 100%.

The other two songs are taking up the majority of my brain power, but today I took a break and went to the dentist (2 cavities, BUT he says if I floss, and I quote he *guarantees* I'll "live the rest of you life virtually problem free" -- this is a big deal for me because I am perennially nervous about having bad teeth.) and when I came back lyrics for "The Pattern" a song I've been working on for almost 6 months now--actually since the last day of recording for Lisa Piccirillo's record, I came up with this vocal riff/progression on the piano at Chuck Eller's studio in Charlotte, VT. That's actually kind of cool. I forgot that. Anyway, I had a *vague* idea what it was going to be about--patterns in our lives that keep repeating and how we kind of choose to repeat them, but it wasn't until today that things came together. Here are the lyrics so far, I kind of had a hard time fitting some of them in, so editing will be necessary, but it's closer than it was!

    The Pattern

    >you tell yourself you’re ruthless
    >cold hard steel on the edge of a knife
    >but scratch below the surface
    >whittle it down and you will surely find
    >a deep woven indecsion, a painful precision
    >a pattern you’ve played out before

    >things never change quick when you’re built like this
    >so find the prettiest mistake and give her a kiss

    >this is the pattern repeat it repeat it
    >this is the damage cocneal it conceal
    >failed to reconsider the alternative before you
    >end up where it all began, beginning once more

    >so you think that I deserve this?
    >this crippled core, this blind foresight
    >I prefer to think I earned it
    >if I prefer to think at all these days I find
    >it’s desire, that idiot fire, that burns any reason to a hot white light

    >things may never change since I’m built like this
    >so I find the prettiest mistake and give her a kiss
