  • Taylor Swift Wins Five American Music Awards

Taylor Swift won big at last night’s 37th Annual American Music Awards, taking home five trophies, including the evening’s biggest award, Artist of the Year. Taylor also won the awards for Favorite Female Artist (Country), Favorite Female Artist (Pop/Rock), Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist, and Favorite Album (Country – for Fearless).

Taylor accepted her AMA Awards live via satellite from her concert stage in an empty Wembley Arena in London, where she was rehearsing for tonight’s sold-out show. Taylor and her band stayed up most of the night to watch the show live from the US, and she accepted her last award at almost 4 a.m. London time.

"Music has never been ultimately about competition,” Taylor said while accepting Artist of the Year. “And to even be mentioned in a category with Michael Jackson, who we will miss and love forever, is an unimaginable honor. I just want to say that I'm sending my love to the Jackson family, and to Janet for reaching out to me the way that you have. And, to the fans, you have given me so much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving! I hope you guys have an awesome Thanksgiving…..l miss and I love you. Thank you so much!”

The AMA wins cap an unparalleled year for Taylor, who turns 20 in just a few weeks. Taylor’s Fearless CD is the best-selling album of the year in all genres of music, and her AMAs bring her 2009 awards total to 20. Earlier this month Taylor won four CMA Awards, including the industry’s top honor - Entertainer of the Year, and she was also awarded the CMA’s 2009 International Artist Achievement Award. She won this year’s ACM Album of the Year, along with their Crystal Milestone Award, the BMI President’s Award, and the 2009 BMI Country Song of the Year Award. Also this year, Taylor took home an MTV VMA Award, two CMT Music Awards, two Teen Choice Awards, and the NSAI’s Songwriter/Artist of the Year Award.

Taylor will discuss her year with NBC’s Matt Lauer this Thursday (November 26th), when she’s profiled on the network’s “People of the Year” primetime special, airing on NBC at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The special includes what NBC calls “the most fascinating, inspirational, heroic and notorious figures, and most-talked about stories of 2009.” The hour also includes interviews with Susan Boyle, Kobe Bryant, Captain Chesley Sullenberger, and Captain Richard Phillips.

  • Taylor Swift Sweeps CMA Awards

Taylor Swift walked away from last night’s 43rd Annual CMA Awards ceremony as the history-making winner of FOUR CMA Awards, including the industry’s biggest honor – Entertainer of the Year.

A month shy of her twentieth birthday, Taylor became the youngest artist in history, and the first female artist in a decade, to win the Entertainer of the Year trophy. In the 43-year history of the CMA Awards, only six other female acts have won the coveted top prize: Loretta Lynn (1972), Dolly Parton (1978), Barbara Mandrell (1980,’81), Reba McEntire (1986), Shania Twain (1999), and the Dixie Chicks (2000).

Taylor also won CMA Awards last night for Female Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year (for the critically-acclaimed and quadruple-platinum-plus Fearless – Taylor was honored as both artist and producer), and Video of the Year (for “Love Story”). Earlier in the day she was honored with the CMA’s International Artist Achievement Award. Taylor shared last night’s Album of the Year producer honors with her co-producer Nathan Chapman, and the Video of the Year Award with director Trey Fanjoy.

Accepting her Entertainer of the year award, a tearful Taylor invited her band to the stage to share the honors. “I’ll never forget this moment,” Taylor said during her acceptance speech, “Because in this moment, everything that I have ever wanted has happened to me.”

One year to the day after the release of her Fearless album, last night’s CMA wins top a year of unparalleled success for Taylor.  Released on Big Machine Records, Fearless received rave reviews from the nation’s top critics (including Rolling Stone, The New York Times, the New Yorker, the Los Angeles Times, and USA Today), and is the world’s biggest-selling album this year, in any genre. Fearless has earned Gold or Platinum sales certification in 16 countries spanning 5 continents, including achieving quadruple-platinum status in the US, and has spawned singles that have topped the Country, Pop and Adult Contemporary radio charts. Fearless was also named 2009 Album of the Year by the Academy of Country Music, and is currently nominated for 2009 American Music Awards for both Country and Pop/Rock Favorite Album.

Fearless has spent more weeks in the #1 position atop Billboard’s Top 200 all-genre CD sales chart than any other album this decade. Taylor, whose career record sales now top 10 million, holds the Billboard all-genre records for the longest charting album of this century and for most Top 20 debuts in a calendar year. Big Machine Records recently released a special CD/DVD Platinum Edition of Taylor’s Fearless album, and last week the title spent its 26th week at #1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums Chart.

The TAYLOR SWIFT FEARLESS 2009 TOUR was the hottest concert ticket of the year, wowing fans and critics worldwide. Capacity crowds packed arenas around the globe -- every show on the tour sold out within minutes, including one at Madison Square Garden in one minute, and one at Los Angeles’ STAPLES center in just two minutes. The blockbuster tour was chronicled in the one-hour primetime NBC network special Dateline: On Tour With Taylor Swift. Taylor is taking her show back on the road next year, with the FEARLESS 2010 TOUR playing 37 shows in 29 cities in 22 states and provinces in the US and Canada, plus seven dates in Australia.

Last week, Taylor was both the host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live, receiving rave reviews and delivering the show’s highest ratings of the season. Earlier this year, Taylor guest-starred on the top-rated CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, with her episode watched by more than 20 million viewers. She also filmed a role as part of the ensemble cast in Garry Marshall’s highly-anticipated feature film “Valentine’s Day,” set for release in February of next year. Other television appearances this year included the GRAMMY Awards, the ACM Awards, the MTV VMA Awards, the CMT Music Awards, The Oprah Winfrey Show (twice), Dancing With The Stars, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Late Show with David Letterman, the Today Show, Good Morning America, The Ellen Degeneres Show, and The View.

Taylor has appeared on several magazine covers over the past year, including the upcoming December issue of InStyle. Other covers included Rolling Stone, Billboard, Glamour (the title’s biggest-selling issue of the year), Allure, People StyleWatch, Redbook, Seventeen, and Teen Vogue.

Taylor’s InStyle December cover showcases the fashion industry’s first-ever augmented reality cover. Taylor Swift enters the history books this week, claiming the Billboard record for the longest charting album of this century.

Released in October of 2006, Taylor’s self-titled debut CD now spends its 157th week on Billboard's Top 200 albums chart, more weeks on the chart than any album this decade, surpassing the record previously held by Nickelback. Taylor also holds the Billboard record for most Top 10 debuts in a calendar year, and is the only solo female act in the 44-year history of the Billboard Country Chart to score five Top 10 singles from a debut album. Taylor holds the Billboard record for the longest-charting female Country star in the Nielsen SoundScan era, and is also the only Country artist in history to have a #1 single on Billboard's Nielsen BDS Hot 100 Airplay chart (which incorporates airplay from all formats).

Also this week, with Big Machine Records’ release of the CD/DVD Fearless Platinum Edition, Taylor locked down five of the Top 10 singles positions on iTunes' all-genre singles chart, as well as seven of iTunes' Top 10 Country singles, including the entire Top 6. Fearless, named 2009's Album of the Year by the Academy of Country Music, was originally released in November of 2008. Now quadruple-platinum in the US, Fearless has earned Gold or Platinum status in 16 countries spanning five continents and has spent more weeks in the #1 position atop Billboard's Top 200 all-genre CD sales chart than any other album this decade.

This Saturday, November 7th, Taylor is set to host Saturday Night Live (NBC), and will also serve as the show's musical guest that evening. Taylor joins a small number of artists who have pulled double duty on the show, a group that includes Justin Timberlake, Sting and Janet Jackson. The last time a female country artist was tapped to both host and perform was Dolly Parton, twenty years ago. Taylor will appear tonight, November 2nd, on NBC's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and is set to perform on the CMA Awards on ABC on November 11th.

Taylor is nominated for four CMA Awards this year, and with six nominations is the top nominee for the 2009 American Music Awards.
