California rock band Tea Leaf Green may be taking the volume down a notch with their acoustic incarnation, Coffee Bean Brown, but don’t expect this cup of musical joe to be watered down. The self-described “youthful gypsies” bring just as much energy to the stage when performing as Coffee Bean Brown as they do plugged in, which you can hear for yourself this week on Coffee Bean Brown Comes Alive - their first live album as the acoustic alter-ego their fans have come to know and love. Recorded at NYC’s now defunct East Village venue Mo Pitkins, Coffee Bean Brown Comes Alive is available in all digital stores today.
Tea Leaf Green usually keeps it simple, with Reed Mathis on bass, Josh Clark on guitar, Trevor Garrod on piano, and Scott Rager on drums. When Coffee Bean Brown hits the stage, however, the quartet expands their horizons, adding banjos, cellos and mandolins to their already big sound. The aptly-titledCoffee Bean Brown Comes Alive certainly won’t disappoint TLG’s fanbase, and will likely garner even more fans with its eclectic style.
To celebrate the release, Tea Leaf Green began a 15-date tour across the US in mid-May, also morphing into Coffee Bean Brown on several occasions. They appeared at the Mountain Jam Music Festival to rave reviews last week, and are soon hitting stages at the All Good Music Festival, 10,000 Lakes Festival and many more.
