With a sound that can be described as fresh, raw and vivid; songwriting that is at once thoughtful, electric and emotive, The Contact have carved a space for themselves in Halifax's competitive music scene. Praised by critics and fans alike, The Contact blend influences from U2 to Coldplay, with breathtaking vocals and potent melodies that capture you from the first listen. By blending simple rock melodies with modern artistic expression, The Contact is exploring new ways of connecting with their audiences. The Contact offers music that challenges their listeners and causes audiences to think about issues beyond themselves. "As our world searches for someone to believe in, some cause to fight for, to make sense of this mess we call life. we're asking the same questions," comments lead singer Geoff Fifield. "We're searching for the same answers and expressing some of our own discoveries."This quest for knowledge and truth has been the motivation that has lead The Contact on a journey of musical and personal evolution. The Contact was formed in late 2000 when drummer Mark Bergman, keyboard player Jordan Allen and guitarist Tim Fifield, who had been in a previous band together, approached Geoff with the intent of taking their passion for musical expression to the next level. They were later joined by Kamal Sampara on bass guitar. After exploring the realm of a more electronic sound, the band re-evaluated what they defined as rock and roll and made the shift towards raw, organic music. "Our sound has definitely undergone a progressive journey," comments Jordan. "Our early days saw industrial rock beats merging with energetic guitars and keys. Over the last couple of years, we have developed more stripped down songs that reveal a natural beauty behind our music. It's a balancing act; blending crunching rock with soothing atmospheric tones." The Contact's self titled debut CD, which was released in late 2003 is a compilation of both early songs of the band as well as those that were created in the studio. The band is ready to build on an already extensive performance schedule and is excited for the opportunities that will surface in the future. "Many unique opportunities have really helped us step forward with our music and we feel like there is much more to come," explains Geoff. "We're excited for what's next."
