Jul 08, 12:05 AMThe Dead Weather’s Debut Album, Horehound, Available Today As a Free Stream, Only on iLikeThe Dead Weather's Debut Album, Horehound, Available Today As a Free Stream, Only on iLike
July 8, 2009 - Seattle, WA and Nashville, TN- Following on the successful heels of The White Stripes and The Raconteurs, Jack White has now joined forces with Alison Mosshart (The Kills), Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs) and Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age) to form a rock band called The Dead Weather. The band's highly anticipated debut album, Horehound, is available to listen to in full and for free, exclusively on iLike (the leading social music discovery service) for the next 24 hours at www.iLike.com/thedeadweather
In advance of Horehound's July 14th release, fans can experience the album for the first time today, exclusively on iLike. Horehound was produced by Jack White on his Third Man Records imprint and was the first record to ever be recorded at his new Nashville-based studio.
"I feel it, you feel it - we're all struggling with the trouble that this industry is in right now," said Jack White. "And it's not about sales; it's about beauty and romance and a relationship to art that's turning invisible, and it's affecting people's perception of music. It's affecting whether they think of it as a viable art, because it's so disposable. It's not about being modern or retro or a Luddite or being hopeful or pessimistic about the future; it's about clinging on to what makes sense of our lives, and what gives our lives value, and what gives us a commonality and a feeling of belonging."
About The Dead Weather
Jack White plays drums, produces and splits lead vocals with Alison Mosshart (The Kills) while Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age) plays guitar and Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs) plays bass. The impetus for The Dead Weather came when Alison Mosshart's band The Kills opened on a few US tour dates for The Raconteurs. Jack White was given doctor's orders to take it easy on the vocals, so he invited Alison to sing a few songs onstage. Immediately recognizing the musical synergy, the trio devised a plot to record together during some down time in White's own Third Man Recording Studio in Nashville. White then enlisted the addition of erstwhile Raconteurs' touring accomplice and Queens Of The Stone Age collaborator Dean Fertita. What was initially imagined as a one-off collaboration for a 7" single release turned into a full-length album once the quartet switched on the recording tape.

Some early praise for Horehound...
"...an excellent album of sex sweat, bourbon breath, gun smoke and guitar sleaze...these are all top-notch songs...what a lovely way to burn." 4 Stars - Rolling Stone
"...when you listen to clattery Horehound tracks like "So Far From Your Weapon" or "Treat Me Like Your Mother"...you imagine a sort of Tennessee Williams, kitchen-knife-wielding scenario, starring an unhinged Nick Cave and PJ Harvey circa "Henry Lee."" - Spin
"The 11 songs on the album...are spare and sexy, with the vocals often distorted or submerged beneath grinding, snaky rhythms." - The New York Times

Jul 07, 06:27 PMPremiere of "Treat Me Like Your Mother" short directed by Jonathan GlazerOn the verge of the July 13th (UK/Europe)/July 14th (North America) release of their debut album Horehound, The Dead Weather announce the uncensored Cinemax debut of the short "Treat Me Like Your Mother." The groundbreaking film was directed by Jonathan Glazer, whose credits range from such highly-acclaimed feature films as Sexy Beast and Birth to award-winning music videos for Radiohead. In a rare event, the film will premiere in full in the US on Cinemax on July 11th at 9:55 pm and continue to air on all of the Cinemax multiplex channels for the following five weeks. The short will premiere in the UK on Channel 4 on July 13th at 00:10.
"It was overwhelmingly electric working with Jonathan Glazer on this project, which feels more short film than video," said White. "I've never felt an intensity like I did on the set of this shoot. Absolutely violent, explosive, and poetic."
"Theirs was a beautiful energy to tap in to," explained Glazer. "You can't ask for anything more."
