  • Mighty Storm

All of us in The Duhks have been huge admirers of the art, music and the culture of the Gulf Coast. We grew up on the music of Louisiana and are fortunate to call many Louisianans our friends. We would like to give a special shout out to Roddie Romero and the Hub City All Stars, The Red Stick Ramblers, Feufollet, Balfa Toujours, Curly Taylor and Zydeco Trouble, CJ Chenier and our other good friends in Lafayette, LA and Texas. After Hurricane Katrina, we were especially moved by how individuals and organizations stepped up to lend a supporting hand and were able to make a true difference during and since those tragedies.

When we came together to begin writing our new album, "Fast Paced World", back in November of 2006, we wanted to honor that spirit and continue to shine a spotlight on the importance of the Gulf Coast and the difference that each of every person can make. Leonard's dad told us about the song "Mighty Storm"--discussing the Galveston Storm of 1900 and we felt that would be a way to remind us that in the most difficult situations, each of us can still find a role in rebuilding and hope.

It was incredibly eerie this past weekend following news of Hurricane Ike and hearing that it followed the same path as the storm of 1900 and hearing from people at the shows over the weekend about the connection between the song and the news.

We have been asked what can be done for the victims of Hurricane Gustav and now Hurricane Ike...as we did following Katrina, we need to come together again now to help those most in need. Through our music, we continually strive to make a difference in people's lives. As they say,
music is a universal language that transcends boundaries and bond people even thousands of miles apart. And so we'd like to encourage you to bond together to lend support to the rescue and rebuilding efforts http://www.redcross.organd http://directrelief.orgto find out how you can contribute to the efforts right now. We'd also like to hear from you about efforts you learn about and share those here.

Our thoughts are with our brothers and sisters in the Gulf Coast and surrounding areas so let's all lend a hand!
