"Their last album was great and the next one is fantastic! The Insomniacs are the best traditional blues, jump and rock band to come along in a decade....expect a nomination for best traditional album for 2009!" – Randy Chortkoff, CEO - Delta Groove
The Blues Foundation’s 2008 "Best New Artist Debut" nomination of their first release, "Left Coast Blues", has brought national attention to this jump blues foursome. Since Delta Groove's release of this highly-acclaimed, award-winning CD, The Insomniacs have logged a heavy touring schedule that has included some of the finest venues and festivals spanning 50 cities in 15 states and 2 Canadian provinces.
The combination of awards, 30 weeks on the blues charts (reaching as high as #5), world-wide press, and impressive touring schedule has quickly moved The Insomniacs from notable "new act" to seasoned performers sharing the stage with the best in the business.
The group’s inspiration comes from traditional American roots of blues, R&B, jazz, and early rock and roll. They skillfully blend these influences into their own unique sound and deliver it with the freshness and youthful energy of rock and roll merged with the style and improvisational muscle of jazz and swing, enveloped by the approachable tastes of R&B and blues. This danceable mixture has captured the attention of traditional blues fans, a new generation of young blues fans and dance fanatics alike.
The quartet is fronted by vocalist/guitarist Vyasa Dodson, who draws inspiration from many of the Left Coast's most highly regarded and influential musicians including Hollywood Fats, Little Charlie Baty and Junior Watson. Accompanied by Dean Mueller on bass, Alex Shakeri on keyboards and Dave Melyan on drums, The Insomniacs have successfully merged into an irresistible and potent mix of vintage swing, jazz, blues, and classic rock ‘n’ roll with broad audience appeal.
