The dust swirls around your feet as the blistering, unadulterated sun blasts powerful UV rays of mass epidermal destruction from above, causing you to swoon over and over like a plush doll with spina bifida. The sound causes you to become alert, readiness flows over you…. with her unassuming presence, the Lady Esther sits in the corner. Formed from the smoking remains of math-metal band Primate and hard-rocking popsters Three Hour Midnight, The Lady Esther has set their sights on nothing less than rocking the minds out of every last beings cranium. Combining their previous knowledge of extremely heavy underground thrash metal and the ultra melodic stylings of pop rock, the boys of the Lady Esther have created a unique sound blending rock, metal, and funk. Hailing from Nanaimo, British Columbia, on Vancouver Island’s rainy east coast, these four young men spent their formative years playing in numerous local bands. Guitarist Dave Sponaugle and vocalist Chris Arruda went to high school together, most notably playing together in Festive Inhaler. Bassist Ryan Steele met Dave when he was asked to join Dave’s hardcore math-metal band Primate. Primate went their separate ways after high school, and Dave, Ryan and drummer Aaron Klassen attended the Jazz Program at Malaspina College-University. Ryan had played in a bass/drum duo with Aaron previous to college and together with Dave began jamming. It was only during the following summer that Chris was invited to grab the mic and bust-a-groove. And bust-a-groove he did. The Lady Esther was solidified, taking their name from a women’s golf club found in the basement of Chris’ parents house. Playing locally at bar’s and all-ages shows are the bands bread and butter, playing their songs as energetically as possible.
